    HOWEVER...THIS ALL CHANGES BY LATE
WEDNESDAY NIGHT/THURSDAY AS A VERY STRONG JET MAX IN THE RANGE OF
150-160 KNOTS AND EMBEDDED SHORT WAVE DROP SOUTHEAST ACROSS
COLORADO. THIS SHOULD GET MOUNTAIN TOP WINDS HOWLING AND WITH COLD
ADVECTION AND IMPROVING LAPSE RATES TO NEAR 6C/KM...WOULD EXPECT A
NASTY DAY IN THE HIGH COUNTRY WITH SNOW/BLOWING SNOW. HAVE
INCREASED POPS TO THE LIKELY CATEGORY AND ALSO INCREASED WINDS IN
THE HIGH COUNTRY WITH THIS SYNOPTIC PATTERN. AMOUNT OF SNOW AND
APPROPRIATE WINTER WEATHER HIGHLIGHT WILL LIKELY DEPEND ON EXACTLY
HOW DEEP/STRONG THE EMBEDDED SHORT WAVE IS. CANT EVEN RULE OUT SOME
SNOW ON THE PLAINS WITH THE UPPER JET MAX SCREAMING OVERHEAD. ANY
ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS WOULD LIKELY HINGE ON
WHETHER WE GET ANY ANTICYCLONIC LOW LEVEL TURNING INTO THE MOUNTAINS.
could I be touring by this weekend?

What are things going to be like this weekend?

I have options to fly down to Denver Friday night, Saturday or Sunday.

Monday I have meetings in Boulder, then it's a week long tour around hitting Fort Collins, Steamboat, Breck, Fairplay, Castle Rock and Golden for PK's.

I can either come down and tag on this weekend or stick around at the end of next week for the a day.

What say the CO weather maggots?

Limited terrain open with temps in the upper 30s and sunny this weekend. No new snow between this Fri and the next Friday.

Calls for a bullish couple of days appear to be subsiding as STRONG upper level jet seems to be setting up north of the state. Lots of wind and likely some snow hilites for the NorthCentral mountains by Thursday.

No. But if you wanted to ride some of our baby butt smoove singletrack, it may be worth it (Buff Creek is still riding well).

I'd even let you ride one of my 29ers

Tempting. I do own riding manpris.

Itching to ski and weather up here is not co-operating. Any decent touring down there yet not too far from Boulder?

Did you actually get some turns, if so did you bootpack or skin....did you do any snow tests for slide risk?

this question could go for anyone whose been in the JP, LLP, backcountry recently.

weather.gov shows 2-4, 1-3 inches a night for the next few nights, might try to get some turns saturday morning, don't have my skins for the bros yet though, so trying to find some bootpacking trails, or maybe somewhere in Loveland Pass that I can just park the car and ride.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Yes, I got turns. I skinned. I'd suggest reading Shera's response to your 'risk' question in the Front Range thread

Not yet. Its thin and bony. We could show you something if you just wanted to hike and make some survival turns down.

volklpowdermaniac, I suggest reading up some of the stickeyed threads in the Slide Zone forum, taking SheRa's advice in the CO Front Range thread, and then pray that somebody will show your JONG ass the ropes.

On a totally unrelated note, I like how NWS has revamped the Warning and Advisories for this year. In the past, the amateurmeterologist was faced with numerous types of warnings and advisories (snow advisory, snow and blowing snow advisory, heavy snow warning, and winter storm warning). While the amount cut-offs were easy to figure out, I could never understand why they would have that many warning/advisory types.

This year, it seems that they have moved to a two tier system: winter weather advisory and winter storm warning.

This system moving in looks good and windy. Should bring between 6-12 to favored west/northwest slopes in the front range. Still don't think enough to warrant touring yet, but I may poke around this weekend to see how things are progressing.

Big ridge of high pressure builds in for next week, though a few backdoor (montanaskier's favorite word) systems may move in. Pattern change in store for the 25th on (hopefully).

i got this text last night from a friend in FoCo:
"Cameron Pass had at least 20 inches of fresh on top of a good sized base. Insane pow turns. Six more over night"

I dunno how accurate that is, but it definitely put a smile on my face

Is the general consensus that Jones is gonna be good to go after tonight/tomorrow? Even if it doesn't snow that much it should get windloaded like none other?

that being said, the link frim Abasin's site to weath.gov, shows 1-3 accumalating today, "3-7" over night, and 1-3 again tommorow.

Anyone thinking of going up from Boulder?

Looking to snag a ride just for the day

was really warm here today and nothing as far as precip goes. I guess the main part of the storm rolls through tonight. 1-3 on the valley floor isn't exciting but hopefully it dumps up high. We've had lots of off and on flurries this week but this has been a relatively warm week. Like my personal BFF Rontele says, I hope the pattern shifts on the 25thish to colder temps....and steady snow!

I had some boarders come back from abasin and they said it was pretty damn soft (they have been going since opening weekend) I don't know how much fresh they thought their was, but they said there was indeed some fresh, take that for what you willll....

It will be nice to have a warm week then a good week after thanksgiving when I come back from the east.

I dunno. I heard about 3 inches fell at Loveland today with the brunt of the storm tonight...

    Have hope, its only mid-Nov.

    Even montanaskier is staying composed

    hi, montanaskier

Agreed. For the Summit Zone the weather forecasters are 0-3 this year on snowfall amounts when we're under any kind of winter weather advisory.

Oh well, it's still very early.

I talked to him again, he said it was epic up there Wed. morning. "It was insane. Snowed all day. Everything was covered with a ton of pow." I think it's snowing there right now according to my radar.

Yea that was nice. 11/14, and we get our first dusting of the season. Sure as hell took long enough.
