Tyson skis out of Vail, not Aspen. If you're claiming an Aspen bias, I don't think you picked a very good example. Not too many Vail fans from Aspen. Tyson barely made the cut, and although I didn't see his run, it sounds like the two of you must have been very close.
One more thing: the guy in the pic that landed on his head ripped the top of the venue, which has the highest line score, with the most exposure, and he did it with speed, control, and fluidity. He also went the biggest between Two Trees and still skied away without losing any equipment. Watch the vid and look how much further out he landed than Welgos and others. He didn't anticipate a little bit of a ramp there on the edge and consequently got rocked back. He actually did a pretty good job of keeping it together while going over backward. No question he should have advanced.
I think the controversy over the judging has been completely overblown. The guy and girl who skied the best over the two days won. With the guys, it was very close between first and fourth or fifth, and these are not venues that allow for a lot of separation. I think there was a valid issue with a couple guys, one in particular, advancing after losing equipment. You lose your gear, I agree you should not advance, period. Other than than that I thought the judging was spot-on, especially on day 2. Judges are human and make mistakes. If you feel you got screwed, that's unfortunate, but ultimately their job is to determine the best skiers of the event and I think that's exactly what they did. Try to cut 'em some slack. It's not a world tour-level event, and that goes for the judges too. I can assure you they weren't biased toward Aspen skiers.
The bottom line is that in ANY IFSA Tour stop, if you land on your head, you will not advance....regardless. Maybe he did slay the top, but it should be about stompage, not head landings or hip checks. I agree that the peeps who won deserved it, no doubt! I was just bummed not to ski on the second day, after picking what I though was the biggest, stompable air, and stomping it....
Boo to the judging on this one......I stomped a solid line off the headwall on day one into a pinpoint landing, and scored 5 up from the cut, only to find that one guy who headplanted, one guy that lost a ski, and one guy that spun out on his landing all beat me! What a load of shit! I actually scored a 3 on fluidity on a 6 line from one judge.....with only a brief stop to line the air up...figure that one out.
IFSA should know thier name is attached to an event that does not score even close to the way any of their national tour stops do. More importantly, the scoring system is designed to deter people from skiing above thier ability, and making the sport look sloppy. I agree that the top finishers deserve their place. However, they made the two trees air look simple...with great technique. much of the field hacked their way to the drop, then hucked and either rolled the wndows down or did a headplant backwards. Yeah theyu skied an 8 or 9 line, but the rest of their scores should suffer appropriately.
I've done Snowbird, Kirkwood, Squaw, and Jackson comps, and trust me I am not the best by any means. But, I can recognize the scoring standards across the different events, and don't think I will return to the Aspen event, as the scoring undermines the legitimacy of the sport I love so much. IFSA, PLEASE ADDRESS THE JUDGING OF THIS EVENT TO PRESERVE OUR SPORT!!!!
I didn't make it to this one, but last year it was obvious that if you were an aspen local and chose the triplejump line you had an advantage. I have to give kiffer props for his run that day even though I thought there was one or two better runs. He skied triple jump as well or better than anyone else after everyone else had already hit it.
However i think it's lame that everyone does the same line. Tracked out flat landings don't really appeal to me.
And the first day is just a huck fest. It doesn't matter how you ski as long as you go hudge!
Powder snow skiing is not fun. It’s life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality. What we experience in powder is the original human self, which lies deeply inside each of us, still undamaged in spite of what our present culture tries to do to us. Once experienced, this kind of living is recognized as the only way to live–fully aware of the earth and the sky and the gods and you, the mortal, playing among them. Dolores LaChapelle

oh you won't return to the aspen event?...oh no say it ain't true? you don't sound like the best, in fact i'm sure you weren't even close to the best this past weekend. you sound like a 5 line type of guy, therefore you should stop bitching like a little sally and realize you skied like shit.
all you losers stop bitching about "JUDGED" events. i don't hear russian gymnasts bitching abut a 8.6 or a 5.7 whatever the fuck. it is what it is, go back to posting lame "TR's"
oh god, you are wrong. Everyone complaining about judging is dead on. On any other IFSA sanctioned event, guys who land on their ass, hip, or head don't move on. (The exception is Tabke, who lost a ski last year at Jackson and still made the superfinal.) Most of the time, a guy who puts a hand down or has a bobble doesn't move on. I know the judges were inexperienced, but at least Tatsuno should know better. Even guys on the podium were complaining about the judging.
And if it helps you other_grskier, I finished well within the top 10.

are you all this fuckin retarded or something?
Wow....you missed the boat on this one.....yeah I love the 5 lines, come on over to Squaw and I'll push you off one...seriously, I promise, Douche. Your insight and clarity are also astonishing...you are definitely one of the best. Why don't you get some sac, and post without an alias, or at least an original user name.

your gonna push me down a 5 line? like, in a saucer?
and you want me to buy a tent? i have a tent.
and this ain't no alias. My name is Greg Rubens. i am a skier. therefore...i am the grskier. but that was taken. so i'm the other grskier. the why is there only one grskier? it doesn't seem fair. it just so happens myself and grskier ski the same terrain.
Sweet so is there going to be another internet ski off????
Oh and judging is all subjective, Tatsuno loves to ski super hard lines fast and give'er. So naturally that is going to score well with him, technique and control might be down but the other categories will be off the charts.....
All depends on what that particular judge likes to see....

well within the top ten would mean top five, i think.

So you hang out on a lot of Russian Gymnast forums?

Hey d-bag - here's something for you to think about: maybe (just maybe) not everybody here has their little panties in a wad 24/7 and flies into a rage whenever somebody disagrees with them. Maybe these same mags don't take this place uber-seriously. Maybe this even includes the vast majority of the people who post here as opposed to you and like 20 other thin-skinned douchebags. Just something to think about. -JER
What has this conversation degraded into? The best skiers won. Its obvious, watch the videos. Those who did not qualify for the second day... 40 made the cut .... did not ski like the skiers that did. Jeff King CHARGED into two trees and was going so fast he got spun upside down. Damn, that was nuts! And Luke
Smith, I wanted to see him ski on day two after dropping the diving board. Vids posted here
But overall, I have never seen such talent rock the Hanging Valley Wall. A few years back, Vince and Estrada and Shine etc. were the only ones hucking near two trees. Now its everyones domain. Maybe Vince should come out of retirement. Bet he wants to! All we have to do is shoot him up with some cortizone and a box of Advil! You know we have not seen the last of Lahey.
Hopefully this works... and doesn't bring back the flaming retarded-ness that happened earlier:

hope you don't mind cuseo
Heh, cameraman was not expecting her to move so fast out of frame.
Plus the "oh god, slow down, slow down" commentary in the background is comedy gold.
