Krypton Pro fit

Since I know there are a bunch of you Krypton lovers on here, I thought I could get some better ideas about sizing. I have a Size 11 foot (well the left foot is a touch smaller) approx a large C width but with a decent sized instep but narrow heel and ankle. I have been using somewhat high volume boots (Nordica Beast) in the past which was a mistake for my ankle and shin area. I quickly threw on a 28.5 Krypton Cross the other day and was surprised that it didn't really squash my forefoot. A quick shell fit did seem borderline long on the left though (slightly less than 2 fingers. The shop didn't have a 27.5, but I'm not sure if I would be able to get in that size (current BSL on 325, the 28.5 Krypton was 317 IIRC.)

What sizing are you guys running in the Krypton Pros or Cross? Foot size vs shell size and how much work it took to get in them is helpful. The issue is that in the flatlands here there are very few if any good shops and the fitter I have worked with in the past in VT is far enough away to make it difficult to have multiple major mods done, as I am usually only up there for a weekend at a time.

i've skiied a 26.5 in my past few boots, i went shell size down to 25.5 in the krypton pro and love it, fits a lil snug, but very responsive.

8.5 shoe, 25 krypton (I have also skied the Xwave in 25, the impact in 24 with some work)

kryptons are a 99mm last.

shell fit, you want a 5-15mm shell fit, and remember that you can make a small boot bigger, but not a big boot smaller. I would guess that a 27 is the better shell for you.

I tried on a 27 today but they only had the non ID version. Shell fit was tight but seemed OK with my forefoot just barely touching the sides of the shell and about 1 tight finger length fit. Instep fit and shin fit (which are most important to me as the reason I'm looking at the Kryptons is serious shin bang issues) seemed tight but acceptable. I definitely think this is the size to go with, but I will almost certainly need a small punch at my right forefoot . Assuming I got the ID model, when should I grind or punch the forefoot? How many days would you try to ski after baking the liner before grinding?

Also I misstated the BSL earlier 28=226, 27=216. Also is there any difference in half sizes with the ID liner, or is it just the footbed that I will be trashing anyway?

Wait for the 08/09...the forefoot has a bit more room, the heel and ankle areas are much better and they are a lot quicker edge to edge.

im a 10-10.5 foot. Im currently in nordica speedmachine 14's.
I tried on the il moros in a 26 a few weeks ago. They were snug with the intuition silver liner. For the extra stiffness and better liner ill probably buy the pro ID. I dont know if its worth buying a 26 and being great, or a 25 and doing alot of work to make them bigger. My SP14s packed out after 80ish days with alot of hiking. Im not too sure.

size 11.5-12 foot (depending summer/winter) 315 BSL krypton (i think it is slightly different this year vs 2 years ago)

Myself and two others in my shop ordered next years Il Moro and all of us agree it is now a boat. I gave mine to my hammer toed co worker. I had skied in the original Pro for two seasons with a power wrap intuition.
Ordered the boot thinking the last was unchanged, and Dalbello claims it is the same but it was unskiable for me.
Maybe NHTele can chime in, as he felt the same way.

11 shoe size. Went with the 27.5 krypton pro with the ID liners. Amazing boot in terms of comfort. Started off with most of the buckles on the second loosest setting. After 20 days skiing them, I've gone to the 4th loosest setting (i.e. almost as tight as they go) on the arch strap. When I'm skiing pow, I keep em tight. When skiing groomers I go a little looser. I'd be curious to see what would have happened if I had gone with the 26. Overall, I love the boot!

probably could've gone a hair smaller, but a good responsive fit with the buckles cranked about 2/3 down. i also had the forefoot punched a little around the 6th toe region.

Size 10 shoe, 27.0 boot, Silver ID liner. Could have probably gone 26.5 in regular liners, but I hate black & blue toes.

i love the flex, but have a little trouble keeping the heel down and back despite what should be the perfect buckle angle. anyone else have that problem? thinking about using a tongue pad...cranking up the middle buckle doesnt seem to do it.

Cranking down the middle buckle on my Kryptons seems to crush my 6th toe more, without pulling my heel any further into the pocket. I'm a bit stumped too. I end up skiing with my front buckles totally undone!

EDIT: Size 12 foot in a 29.5 shell.

No problems here with the heel coming up. Sounds like the shell might be a tad big. Try thicker socks.

I like mine a lot, but I will agree, they aren't the "be all, end all" boot I was expecting. They are different though. Time will tell. I will say that I like to volume of the fit, and will look for something similar in future purchases - the Atomics M10's I have are a bit high on the forefoot volume, and are getting sloppy now that the liners are pretty much packed out. But I am impressed with the ID liners - I'll probably be seeking those out again.

I'm a little torn on sizing though -- 26.5 is PAINFUL for me, even after getting packed out. 27.0 feels great, but once they pack out, they get sloppy.

OK, so I pulled the trigger on the 27 Kryp Pro ID. Guys at the shop measured me and found a size 10.5-11 length with a C to D width. Toe box was very tight and tight at met heads but seemed tolerable in the shop. Length was slightly less than 1 finger fit with a good shell fot through the ankle and instep. My forefoot lightly touched the shell sides by the met heads and I (stupidly) figured I would wait till there was some pack out to have and punching or grinding done in the forefoot. I had the liners molded with a single neoprene toe cap and my existing footbeds (which had to be trimmed for width) and off I went.

Unfortunately, the toe box crunching and met head width squeeze was extremely painful on the hill. My foot kept falling asleep completely and the front tip of my big toe was getting crunched. Did manage to ski teh day but with pain and frequent breaks. I went back to the shop and had the forefoot punched out some. It feels better in the shop, but I still think I will need a little more. Is there any easy way to "shell fit" for width, or is it all trial and error?

Also, one more question. Surprisingly, my heel did not feel especially grounded or secure in the heel pocket. This seemed weird at first b/c these are dramatically downsized in both volume and length from my old too big boots. But I think the problem is that I have a very straight calf/ Achilles area (my heel does not stick out behind the tendon, there is very little curvature in my achilles) and when I take the boot off I can see the whole back of the tendon/ lower calf area is red and has a ton of pressure on it, which is probably keeping my heel from getting all the way back in the pocket and grounded.

Edit to add my current Power Wraps in my old boots seem to have a more defined heel pocket than these ID liners do right now. Not sure if this means anything.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Remold the ID liners and try really hard to drive my lower leg and heel back? I didn't stand on anything under the toes during molding, would that help? Could this be a shell issue and need a grind? Should I just wait till they pack a little more and see if that helps?

Did this cause you to whine on the mountain? Cry? And say things like "my fucking feet are killing me!! I can't ski like this!!" Cause I hate when people whine about that shit.

In playing around with my IL Moros and Pro's....I found my best balance is the IL Moro liner in the Pro shell. I did also flip my lower buckle on the Pro a la the IL Moro/Rampage design, much better.

How is the Il Moro liner different than the pro gold liner, which BTW I actually think is far less firm than the aftermarket intuition powerwrap liner. And why/how did you flip the lower buckle.

the silver liner that comes in the il moros is softer than the gold
as for the buckle flip, i have no idea, phil...?

im still hoping to pull the trigger on some pros soon. my speedmachine 14's are going downhill fast (no pun intended). Anyone know of a shop along the 87 corridor who stock them?

I tried to flip the low buckle on my Pros, but I have the older black ones - it didn't work - at least it didn't look right like the pic of the Rampage...
