and after having my dad's 12g ithaca shoved in my face as a twelve year old who was sneaking back in, and after having a friend of mine shoot himself in the hand (one of the best trained military riflemen on the planet) when he thought someone was breaking in, I've chosen to refrain from putting ammo and guns in the same room
Hmmm......my dad had a 12g Ithica too, but he never shoved it in my face when I was sneaking in. Probably because of my mad stealth skilz.

Oh I also have a bow and a few broadheads laying around, if the burgler doesn't have a gun I don't wanna wake the neihbors

Guess I really don't wanna move there, if you truly "need" all them guns just to feel safe ..

Besides my cock, I have 2 pairs of technical ice tools under my bed... and Hex 11 on a sling... And I would feel just as safe, if my climbing stuff would be elsewhere...

That said, I do understand that keeping all the guns (for hunting and target practice) in the bedroom, as I see no point in offering the guns to the perp... But how many of you guys really have said guns just for protection?

I have them for target shooting mostly. At one point when the Dems were in office some guns were hard to come by, the ban weapons such as my Tec9 had some collectors value.

That's great I'm fine with the Brady Bill. I speak of the The Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

Ironically because of the primarily aprt/condo/townhouse style living you're probably right. I live in a single family home in a nice neighborhood, but we're very close to uptown/downtown and robberies/break-ins happen at least once a month in close vicinity.

I also live in a very nice Single family home neighborhood within the District of Columbia - you know - Murderville. We have had ONE burglary in the last 5 years within 10 blocks of my house, and that was some kid's friend breaking in while they were on vacation. He was trying to find their shared weed stash and then decided to "borrow" the new PS3 while they were gone.

He's looking at 20 years for that, since he's 18.

And Theodore - don't be dense. Thugs buy those guns because they look scary, use them in inordinately high percentages of crime, and thus they are considered more likely to harm you. THAT's what the media is telling you, not that they are inherently more deadly than a normal shotgun. Then again you're not gonna go out Grouse hunting with an assault weapon, so what is the point if not to kill/hurt people?

I have lived in Cities nearly all my life. The only time I ever thought of owning a gun for protection was in the country. Those inbreds are fucking frightening, especially when tweaking, because you KNOW they are armed.

^^^That is almost funny, if it didn't have such a serious down side.

As I recall more people are shot with their own guys then by intruders. Not to much the number of kids who find their parents loaded guys and shot themselves/friends. I guess I am just not a gun person, though I have owned shot guns and small bore rifles, all of which my brother now has, because he is into them.

My other brother is a cop, and after popping off around in our parents house one day while he was fiddling with his service pistol, which missed everybody, I just don't trust people and guns. Another friend, also a cop, put around through his knee while cleaning, and popped another round in the PD's locker room, again by accident. And these are tried people.

I'll just stick with my dogs.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I keep my ice axes and my mountaineering axe in the closet. Does that count?

One of my roommates has an SKS that he keeps in his closet. I think the ammunition for it is upstairs in the attic. Another roommate has a hunting rifle and a some sort of powerful sidearm.

The one time we honestly thought somebody was breaking into our house, the guns stayed put. The door upstairs sounded like it was kicked in and somebody ran into the house. We were downstairs and whoever was upstairs immediately ran out of the house in response to our "hey, who is fuck is up there". We grabbed mountaineering axes so that nobody would jump the trigger and ran after the person.

Turned out it was a friend trying to play a joke. They hid in the bushes in our backyard and jumped out- we were all glad that nobody went for a gun.

Stupid friend though. You don't do that shit when it is late/dark out.

I haven't read this whole thread but I keep a 9mm Sig 226 next to my bed with two 20 round mags loaded with 127gr speer gold dots. A remington 870 loaded with #4 shot is not far away. Both guns are loaded, but do not have a round chambered.

Both the stock and fore end will be changed on the 870.

I love guns, I think they are fucking awesome. Only a couple of mine serve a practical purpose, but if I have em, why not have em ready? I am not going to wait till I need protection to look for some. Call me a gun nut, but I feel safer knowing that America is full of guns. Way more so than just me having one, the knowledge that they are everywhere just makes me feel good.

What amazes me, is not that people have guns for protection, but that they spend a ton of money on a gun they will never shoot, and don't pay any attention to the ammunition they use. I know people they have FMJs loaded in their ARs for home defense. That shit will go right through your house and your neighbor's.

Actually if there is a gun thats a typical "thug" gun, it would probably be some old cheap as hunting 12 gauge pump that has had the barrel hacksawed off and the stock chopped into a pistol grip.

All the "tactical" shit really isn't used by criminals. Its used by cops, military, people that make movies, and gun owners that like things that look cool and are fun to shoot.

I couldn't agree with you more. Each night I wheel one of these fuckers right up to my bedroom door. Just incase you know? I mean with all the terrorism these days and nut jobs out there you can never be too careful. And yes it's loaded 24/7. I'm not waiting to load it untill I need it...that's insane! I sleep well at night knowing that nothing can come through the door without getting massively fucked up. Without guns in this country where would we be? I'm hoping for more tax cuts so that they just get rid of police officers all together and and we can all use the excess money to protect ourselves with guns. We'll be so much safer.

Sarcasm really doesn't take much wit or intelligence, Adolf. It also has nothing to do with being right.

EDIT: The real reason I have six guns is because Superstar Punani once threatened (via PM) to come to MT and kick my ass. I mean come on, wouldn't you be scared?

Thanks for your input. I thought that picture you posted was you being sarcastic so I thought I’d fire one back equally as ridiculous. Ooops, my bad. Seriously why do you have those guns? Part of a Rambo costume? the new flick is coming out by the way...you stoked?

For the record I'm not anti-guns. If anything I'm being reasonable about the whole gun deal IMO. I have a 30/30, a 12 gauge and an old 22 bolt action rifle. Whoopdie doo. It doesn't mean I have to agree with people's opinion on being able to have assault rifles and hand guns. The guns I do have are hidden and unloaded so that when my nieces and nephews come by they don't accidentally kill themselves. If somebody breaks into my house I’ll kick their ass with a golf club, bat, shovel or whatever else can be used as a deadly weapon that is readily available in my room.

No handguns? One of my handguns is probably the gun that gets the most practical use. I carry my s/w 627 every time I go mt biking, hiking, and even early season BC skiing in MT. Grizzly encounters really aren't all that rare around here. I have seen moose, and I know there are mountain lions around. I don't think bear spray really works, in fact theres evidence you're better off without it.

I also don't have any kids around, and I lock my ammunition, the action of each weapon, and put them each in a locked case when I'm not home. If someone breaks in while I'm around, they're getting shot, but I really don't think thats going to happen.

I actually agree that all the "tactical" crap is frivolous. It makes stuff fun to shoot though, and thats pretty much the reason I have guns. You don't object to people playing paintball do you? Its fun to shoot at shit. Thats about all my guns will ever do, with maybe a bit of hunting.

Beets from my farm. They are deadly when thrown at 90mph
When my mother was pregnant with me they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later they discovered that I had reabsorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.
