Exclamation PSA for all the new Duke owners

Dukes are expensive and in serious demand. Plus you're likely to be mounting them on some new, expensive, and in-demand skis, meaning your rig could easily be worth over $1000 retail...and very easy to resell to bargain-hunting ski bums.

That's a lot of cabbage to leave laying around in a rack. Especially at the base area, where people can walk straight to their truck with your gear and no one will give them a second glance.

You may wish to consider buying and using a ski lock.

tis true. my dukes will be on my new goats. it should take about two weeks before noone would want the skis. less if we don't get much snow.

course, the dukes still aren't here yet, and while the rep says they're being shipped on 12/1, i'm still nervous that they will reneg on the pro-form deal. i don't know why they would though, since they're still getting their money.

That is one thing I love about Japan, stealing shit is very rare. I used to leave a pair of skis near the lift a bottom to switch to in the afternoon after a pow morning. I have been leaving my new Seth/Duke combo out all weekend and not even thought about it. The problem comes when I forget about it when I am overseas.

On another note, I love the dukes and the new rockered seth.

The old split the skis up trick works nicely. Put each one on a seperate rack. It looks alot more suspicious if the guy is holding one ski searching for the other. But for $10 a lock is well worth it.

I always lock my skis up for peace of mind. I've been around the racks where other people are freaking out over stolen skis. The locks are pretty cheap though, the only reason they work is because other people don't lock their skis up. Why bother twisting a pair of skis till the lock breaks when you can just grab a free unlocked pair right next to it?

So thanks to everyone not locking their skis for making my cheap lock work.

Not really. That person casually smoking over by the clocktower? They just watched you put each ski away and then watched you head up the stairs to the bar. Your stuff is gone.

Go talk to security at an area sometime. It can be "random" walk bys grabbing stuff off racks, other times its targeted, sometimes its brazen like one guy grabbing 4 snowboards and walking right to the parking lot carrying them all.

or, find the first ski, leave it, find the second ski, then grab them both. i wouldn't leave my skis lying around a base area, ever. up top i do all the time but even then someone could just grab them, walk away like they were their skis, hide them somewhere, and go get them later. never had skis stolen but someone took my poles once.

12/1 huh? Hopefully that is the same boat im in. Except im getting Katanas and dukes. Pro stylie. Its killin me waiting so long. Couple that with no word from Volkyl/ marker. I called once and the lady was like we have no idea when theyll be in and didnt sound happy to hear from me. Which was weird cause three weeks before she said I could call and check whenever i wanted. Bipolar i guess.

Forget about this PSA man... It's OBVIOUS you should lock those suckers up! These rigs with Dukes are so damn valuable this year since they'd sell in a heartbeat online.

In fact, I'll go so far as to reccommend you lock up your door real tight. Hell, I'm so paranoid I friggin DEAD BOLT the door to my apt every time I leave and my Dukes on 197 Katanas are still inside! I NEVER used to dead bolt the door

I guess if they don't ship them, I can get a cheap second hand pair online, or at my favorite resort with these valuable tips.

I have always had junk skis, so it has never been a worry. Getting BROS soon, now I will have to worry.

I just lay mine up in front of the bar - nice, big windows, a clear view of our sticks, and a frosty beverage at hand... Works great. Plus, you have a rowdy group of friends close by to recruit and commence an ass-beating should someone attempt to pilfer said skis...

I had a pair of Karmas jacked at Jay last year. It was the one day of the year that I used the lodge and didn't work out of the car. Now the only time i leave them on any rack anywhere is when I'm in an upper mountain lodge. Anyone ever hear of somebody's skis getting jacked from mid mountian or the top? It seems rather unlikely to me.

maybe just eat your lunch on the lift, or dont eat a lunch. if the skis stay on your feet, it'll be pretty hard to steal them.

Haven't gotten on the Duke bandwagon...

    Yet?

Still um, disenchanted with tele skiing though.

Perhaps the hype surrounding the re-emergence of lockable Ski Totes will eclipse the hype surrounding Dukes?

Damn - I wish I handn't destroyed my sweet vintage Ski Tote trying to jam those m103's in there! I could probably get $50 for it on gear swap.

don't be a gaper. eat lunch on the lift.

  24. #24
The word Gaper is overused Guest

Get these with your ski totes.

And don't forget to super glue your binders, cause I'll be carrying a power drill to steal those dukes off of your "locked skis".

If your skis are jacked because you are spending that much time eating lunch in the lodge, you don't deserve or need Dukes anyway. Now, if that time is spent at the bar, all bets are off.
