    G3 Alpinist length question

I have a pair of long skins that seem to come up pretty short on my skis (194cms). The skins measure about 180 cms from end to end on material not including the tail. The G3 Website says the skins should be about 5cms shorter than the longest length (195cms). Are they measuring material only or do they include the rubber tail in that measurement?

I just cut a pair for my Wailer 105s. You'll need the longest version that they make (which I assume you have) The Alpinist will be shorter, but you want to make sure you don't have too much base showing or you will slip.

toby - what skis? When you put the skin on the tip, how much base material is showing on the tail?

If the tail has a bit of a flip to it, then maybe it will be ok. You can get away with a fair amount of tail and tip showing because when you skin, most of the weight should be on the centre of the ski anyway

bd skins are @ 200cm uncut. i haven't heard of skins that short. i wouldn't use those on skis that long. you'll slip too much.

They are designed to be shorter and lighter. They are actually really nice skins and I think--imo--going to be a big advancement.

Toby, listen to what Lee said. There can be some tail showing, esp. if it is a twin-tip.

Just putzing around. Nothing serious. They are waaaaay lighter than my BDs and other G3s and the tip attach system is not only novel, but very practical too.

The G3 tip attachment is interesting. Could be a nice advance for super fats, but why can't they offer a longer length like bd?

theres 15cms of base showing on the tail and most of the tips is covered. Im thinking the way the tips are designed on the xxl is not allowing the material to "center" properly on the ski. Its too bad if thats the case because I really like the way the new tip connectors attach to the tips. Im going to see Andre about this later on today.

    Those tip connectors seem interesting.

However, after a bad experience with G3 Expedition skins I don't think I would buy a G3 skin again. I just found the glue wasn't very sticky compared to my BD skins and the tail clip was nowhere near as convenient as the BD STS tail clip to put on tightly or stayed on aswell.
