I don't know, I think the extra seals, more rugged body, and dust control are some pretty major ups...

On the 1Ds Mk III or the 40D? I didn't see anything about weather sealing on the 40, but then again I just glanced at the specs and product photos. I will agree, though, that the dust control is definitely a leg up, not just for the 40D but for the entire Canon lineup.

On a positive note, I did save some money on car insurance by staying with GEICO..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 40D sealing improvements are for the cf card slot and the battery? I'm curious to see the overall IQ on the 40D and how it compares with the 20D. I've been happy with my 20D and most likely won't buy another digital camera till I bite the bullet and get the upcoming 5D II or whatever it's rumored to be called these days or even just the 5D after the price comes down.

40d also has the new image processing chip and better AF and drive systems. Those, with the weathersealing, are the upgrades that are drawing me in.

The improved viewfinder as well is another potential draw. The viewfinder on 20D/30D is one my least favorite aspects of the camera.

For you...maybe. Depends on what your budget is for lenses. Glass is far more important in quality image making than the body. Invest in glass, use bodies. If the 30d and 40d stretch your $$$ so that you can't buy 2 or 3 decent lenses than the XTi is probably a better bet. It's an amazing body for the $. If I was in your position I'd buy the XTi or the 40d. The 30d (which I own) is simply outdated feature wise compared to the other bodies. You will not notice a difference in image quality between the 30d and the XTi...it does not exist. I'd say the same thing for the 40d but at this point it's an unknown.

    ...on the Canon 40D sucks.

Does not compare to the rubber gaskets found on Canon 1 series and Nikon pro bodies:

Well anything is an improvement but that is pretty weak.
