Thread: AND THAT IS WHY YOU ALWAYS SCOPE YOUR LINE

Ok so that footage is of me, and let me begin by saying I am indeed an idiot and lucky I didnt hurt myself or die.
Im not sure where you guys got the idea I was skiing this blind, I have quite a few pictures of the line, and I was looking at them from the top before skiing. I dont have the good ones here on my computer, but I'll attach the one I do have.
The line I am skiing is the widest couloir that is just right of center in the picture. The part you cant see where its rocky is where I crashed. I have other shots that show that part, and from the pictures it looks clean except way on the right. What you cant tell from the pictures is that the fall line drags you to the far skiers right side when you think you are in the center. Also, I should have realized that what look like small boulders in a picture are actually big cliffs in 3,000ft couloir.
Also, I was definitely not doing that to get sponsored or anything like that. My friend poached one line out of an email and put it totally out of context, I was completely joking when I said that. Anyone who has skied with knows thats not me. I ski fast because I like to ski fast, not to get sponsored.
Anyways, I guess the lesson learned is to do a better job scoping lines and that pictures dont always show you everything.
    Glad to be here.

Dude, you're a good skier but you really should turn once in a while. Glad you're alright. I'm sure we've all had those moments so don't let the forum get you down.

I'll let others continue to rip you apart. Hopefully the rest of the lessons you need to learn to survive in the mountains don't kill you on the way.

No, his form and fluidity look pretty good (probably not sponsorship material) but needless to say, speed alone did not almost kill him, it was improper knowledge/disrespect? of the terrain combined with speed.

Good video. That's some great terrain. You are very lucky! Crazy speed down a line you have not skied already that day or looked at from all angles and through a spotting scope or binos. Oh yeah, rocks in pics are ALWAYS smaller than up close and personal.

    He's way better than me.

But he looked out of control - skiing beyond his ability and just insanely fast for the line.

Well, looks like getting a picture up isnt going to happen, Ive been trying to upload for half an hour with no luck. I think there is a decent zoomed out shot of the line in the last shot of the video.
Ill just repeat that I did scope my line, I just got lost on it; and that I was not trying to get sponsored or anything; since people seem to be ignoring that from my original post.

    Thumbs down

holy fucking holier than thou bullshit. Everyone get on up to the podium to chastize this guy.

He fucked up trying to push his skiing and almost got hurt. What, that could never happen to anyone else? He was charging the line and probably saw an air that looked doable. Oops. Not so much.

That was some sic meadow skipping.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

It was the standing around talking about how totally gnar it was after the fact that did it for me. If there was a hint of 'that was stupidest thing I could have done I shouldn't even be here' then maybe sit back and assume the lesson is learned. Didn't get that, more a sense of legend and worship. That's not good for him, for anyone who sees the video or long term for our sport as a whole so yea I feel good about what you see as 'holier than thou' and no I've never done anything nearly that stupid.

Uhhh...what about the part when he says "this is why you scope your line" and "I think I'm gonna have to start believing in God". Oh ya and "I'd probably be crying right now if I wasn't in shock". I'm pretty sure he was regretful and thankful.

Agreed, he definitely knew one of his nine was cashed in.
I don't know about you, but after high adrenaline situations, almost everyone gets giddy.

The problem that I have is that it didn’t look like Mr.Llyon would be able to stop with that much speed, thus the out of control launch that could have killed him.

I see this shit all the time with the Hardcoremofo’s that propagate the “I ski faster than you & and just as fast as the pros in ski porn, and I will prove it by blindly skiing as fast as I can”. So bad ass!

I comment on this with all due respect to Llyons, and I realize its an unbelievable adrenaline rush to ski as fast as you dare on a strange new mountain, I realize for some people cheating death is a way of life.

The other problem and imo is the fact that sometimes this attitude is consumed and mimicked by skiers that dont respect the mountain or have the abilities to ski at that level, possibly endangering innocent skiers or any one who would have to perform a rescue OB.

I'm sure that Llyons is an accomplished skier and this was a one time fuck up that he will learn from. I certainly hope nothing ever stops him from skiing or cause him to wipe off that smile that I'm sure he had on his face when he was ripping that low angle untracked mountain at mach speeds.

please becareful next time lil dude.
