My only problem with the whole thing is that it sounded at first like he was doing it to chase a sponsorship. I think that's gay. That's like becoming a musician so you can get famous. Now that he's posted here saying that wasn't how it was - who cares? Does no one else here ever take chances or make misteaks? Must be a pretty boring exsistence.

As for how the guy skis - I think he rips. Great fluid Bruce Lee form. Guys who think he was just straightlining are obviously gapers who blast groomers at about 20mph. He was skiing fast, but aside from the initial drop in he was always on edge. He looked better than 80% of the bro-brahs I see in MSP/TGR vids.

The guy obviously knows how to ski. Nice Line and like jer said always on edge with good form. I am not dissing his skiing skills at all, just pointing out that a little extra spotting of the run could have made that run epic and not a near death experience. Stay strong llyon and be smarter. I would love to see more footage, especially since there is no snow in my neck of the woods yet.

haha. but he didn't. He was a hair away from dying or being crippled the rest of his life.

all that say he wasn't turning... WTF are you taking about? he was ripping the piss out of that until some bad decision making got in the way.

ragging on this guy after he escaped death is equivalent to people saying iskibc sucks at ski mountaineering after he was exposed as being an asshole. He was ripping and he fucked up, hopefully he learned something from it.

I have some of the same sentiment, however, he was also only a degree or two from landing in the middle of that couliour

Wow. Scary, scary air. Whoever said it reminded them of Leo nearly getting a rock enema at the Bird; that's the exact same thing I thought when I saw it.

I wish I could see the picture he used to pick his line. But based on the video, it was still a terrible choice. What worries me is that he had to thread his way through two huge killer rocks at that insane velocity, with virtually no frame of reference during his approach. He nearly crashed himself into the skier's right wall, but to stick the air he would have needed to put himself dangerously close to the skier's left wall.

I think its obvious it scared the piss out of him, which is good to see. That doesn't mean the "haters" are wrong. Regardless of if he was trying to find fame or not or get sponsored or not, he almost died due to poor decision making based solely on himself and the mountains, which should never be commended.

Please get your picture of the line up, it would help the discussion.

Agreed, llyon, because you were in full control and could have chosen to stop before the rollover to wait for the crew to set up the shot, but instead you just hit it off-camera without witnesses.

Sounds like you learned your lesson, but maybe not fully.

No matter how many photos you analyzed, you might be better off admitting to yourself now that what you did qualifies as "hitting it blind". At takeoff, you THOUGHT you knew enough about the terrain you could not see, but in fact you did not know enough---that is "blind". Hitting stuff blind is OK and can continue to be part of your game, but only if you make good choices to limit your risks and consequences EVERY SINGLE TIME you go blind.

You might be better off admitting to yourself now that you did more than "just get lost on it". Your other statements imply you encountered big cliffs and fall lines you did NOT visualize and expect. You don't need excuses, you need results moving forward. Another thought to consider: speed desensitization after hauling ass. After hauling ass for a long stretch, it is common for a skier/driver to change to a slower speed, then perceive he/she has attained the desired slowness, when in fact he/she is going much faster than he/she preceives. You did scrub a little speed before takeoff, but not enough.

I don't think anybody here is commending his poor descision making. And I don't think his poor descision making should be condemned, either. I've done the same thing Llyon did (on a much smaller scale) countless times. I've also made questionable descisions to ski BC lines solo in less than stable conditions. I think most people have made poor descisions. That's life. Anyone who want's to make the 100% safe descision all the time better stay on the couch.

The "speed desensatization" thing is a good point.
