Fear should be a trusted adviser. Fear should never be a taskmaster.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
Calmer than you dude
I've got some fear, but it ain't fear of working for this homey anymore, it's going to the greybar hotel that has Ron Mexico worried.

Got Valtrex?
What is this "fear" that you speak of?

I guess I scanned too quickly & didn't see it.

Word.
my 2 cents; Overcoming fear on skis is all about using your head. Think about what you need to do physically to land that air or nail that trick. Think about your ability and the conditions. Then make an educated guess at a success rate. If that rate is acceptable to you, clear your head, focus, and go for it.
Finally
Jamie Pierre confronted fear.
And became widely recognized as an inconsiderate, selfish moron.
(But I know you are talking about more...reasonable...confrontation)

Pierre's first decent was definitely more reasonable, and he earned some serious props.
Thoroughly disappointed in all of you...

ROBOTS ARE EATING MY FACE.
But you have to admit, the Targhee huck was just plain idiotic.
Even he says so.
What was the point?
unpossible to ski out of, it was not actually skiing, it was 'controlled dropping'.
(oh shit, here we go again)
Point is, he confronted fear, and lived...and actually regrets it, according to many accounts.
If regrets of stupidity accompany the conquering of fear, in the face of the possibility of death, (and mourning to those left alive), where is the glory of fearless abandon?
(for a recreational pursuit, of course)

nah i'm with ya, the cliff huck was pointless....
he should have deployed a parachute on the way down. then cut free from it 50 feet above the snow, land and ski away
but that's why he's not our favorite super action hero
You must do the thing you fear the most.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Your fears, they make you foolish.
Confucious (I believe); and there is of course, more than one way to interpret this....
However, there is a fine and blurred (no pun intended) line between fear and stupidity. Thus, I have always liked the following as well:
There are old mountaineers and there are bold mountaineers, but there are no old, bold mountaineers.
Don't know who to credit...
Also, while fear is considered a motivator, it is usually discussed as a negative motivator and not one generally associated with consistent success. Top level athletes for example, are more likely motivated by a sense of accomplishment or mastery than they are by fear. (Trust me, there is research to back this up!).
Try to keep two ideas in your head at the same time without blowing your brains out your ass.
every day, that I will run into that bitch of a reality that will tell me that fear is reason to fear that bitch.
I'm good at it...

Listen to the fear. See what it has to say. Think for a minute. Then, turn off the brain, and send it.
Drive slow, homie.
Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

Max, I suggest you face your fears in the bedroom and not the snow from now on.![]()
