"Plane Crash" by Moe is my favorite work on the subject of fear.

What’s the opening line in the Continuum (I think)? Something like: “Fear is like fire; it’s a good thing that keeps the house warm but can burn it down……….."

    Edit 4 - Harvest?

The opposite of LOVE...is FEAR. (not HATE...hate is just a form of fear)

At any given moment you have the choice; being open with love and faith, or withdrawing and closing-off with fear.

Skiing teaches you to recognize fear, and to overcome it with faith (faith in your abilities, in the snow, or in Jamie's higher power). Throughout your life then you can recognize fear in all it's forms and overcome it. All your decisions are based upon FAITH or FEAR.

Yeah Brah!!! You're spot on!!! I've always wished that my fear to huck off of 100' cliffs to rocks in the summer was unfounded. I'm going to do King Arthurs TODAY!!

Wanna join me or are you still a "coward?"

    Absolute statements are absolutely wrong.
    ^^^^^^
(I made a self condemning statement).

Its like most things in life - all in moderation.

If you ski in the backcountry and have "no fear" you will get yourself killed.

If you listen 100% to your fears then you'll never have any experiences worth living.

I disagree. I think that you need to listen to 100% of your fears. It just comes down to which ones you need to ignore, in order to live.

I agree, love and fear are the only two emotions, jealousy and anger are just representatives of fear.

Fear is a lot like the warning label on a prescription bottle. Failure to fully understand either can result in a lifetime of pain and regret. And if the prescription is for Viagra you might wind up with a 4-hour throbbing erection. Which is not necessarily something to be afraid of, unless you have to be somewhere, like a PTA meeting or the swimming pool.

    Damn good stuff!
Have you suddenly become a deep thinker, or did someone else write this?

"Fear has made you what you are not." - I can picture the collective world saying this to the USA, then slapping it in the face a la Cher & Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck and saying "Snap out of it!".

Formosa's law is an unofficial rule of Usenet groups, coined by David Formosa, that states, "The truly insane have enough on their plates without us adding to it." That is, flaming someone with an obvious mental problem can't make it any better. Mr Formosa first came up with this rule for the net abuse newsgroups, which had many trolls and spammers, but also many people who got into trouble for not understanding or being able to deal with others effectively.

It is common, both on the Internet and in real life, to seek amusement by ridiculing people who spout bogus nonsense or engage in silly behavior, on the basis that they have effectively invited this ridicule by their own overt behavior, usually some combination of stupidity, hypocrisy, and pomposity, but in any case behavior that they presumably have control over. However, in some cases, the behavior is the result of actual mental illness or dysfunction, rather than mere boneheadedness or intentional misconduct. Formosa's law states that if someone's weird behavior is caused by an actual pathology, it is inappropriate for others to increase their suffering by adding ridicule. Instead, ridicule should be reserved for people who know better than to engage in their improper conduct.

When younger, I mastered my fear.

    Or so I thought.

Then the love I had embraced in defiance of my fear grew until I learned the meaning of terror. There is nothing (NOTHING) in the world that compares to the terror having children. It is not the fear for oneself, it is the fear of oneself.

I have never known a mightier, or more damning beast.

Fear is good for you in many ways.

Looking forward to using it in some situations and overcoming it in others this coming year.

    Bingo! Exactly.

Discovering yourself. Fear is a part of that process. Knowing what fear should be listened to and what fear should be ignored:Knowing that is knowing yourself.

I think I said it already before everyone..but yeah, it's all about using your head.
However- sometimes you can't plan for this and fear strikes you in the middle of a line. Those have been some of my most fun moments on skis.

My understanding of fear or emotions in general is that no matter what we do, fear will be there if your in a frightening situation. The more we avoid it the more it will present its self. Its better to be aware of it, understand what it’s telling you and make friends with it. Avoidance doesn’t work. Some people avoid it by making up statements like.

“Its better to die like man then live like a coward.” Some smoke weed, I try to sound smart.
