DENVER -- “ Police are searching for a suspect accused of at least three separate thefts from area bike shops.

Authorities say the man then provides the clerk with a driver's license. The photo matches that of the suspect, but the name has been different on each license.

The suspect then leaves the store on a test ride and never returns, police say.

Police say the same suspect has hit at least three different bike shops, including Turin Bicycles at 700 Lincoln, Cycle Analyst at 722 South Pearl and most recently on Saturday, the Singletrack Factory 1005 S. Gaylord.

Police say the stolen bikes are high end, ranging in price from $1,500 to $3,000.

Anyone who recognizes the man pictured is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).

Thannks for posting that. We ask for a drivers license and credit card. He gave us both, but the credit card was stolen and he made a fake Georgia DL with his picture and a name that matched the CC.....and rode away on a ETSX 70. Ouch.

    Meth heads?

flowtron, that sucks. Now your shop may see its insurance premiums increase due to filing a claim, which would be a double-loss thanks to Mr Douche.

    Mr Douche needs a curb-stomping.

    STF.

Crud, in a situation like this, it works out better to not file a claim and just eat a short term loss.

it seems strange that if you are going to the trouble of making fake DL and stealing CC's, you'd target a bike shop and steal relitively low $ amount items like a bike, though with a new bike, stock, its alot harder to trace if you sell it online later on.

flow, sucky for the shop man.

A lot of shops don't run the credit card, which means that the thief can use one that's already burned.

Some guy did the same thing with stolen licenses/CCs to a couple of shops last year in Bozeman (or the year before, I forget). Besides the theft to the shop, this kind of thing can make some shops less willing to let people demo bikes. That really sucks.

Suggestion for future: Do an authorization for $1 on the credit card to see if it is good. In 24 hours the money is unauthorized and it never shows on the account. If delined immediately or comes up stolen, call the cops on the downlow, saying the card reader is not working properly and you need to call them before a person can take the bike for a test ride. Cops show up while you are still pressing whatever buttons on the machine and talking in the phone saying, "yep, ok, uh huh, that did not work, ok, I'll try this, ok, it worked, now what................."

That sucks man. Seen it happen in my buddy's shop in NJ. He now does the authorization too.
