My partners and I have a condo right over the M&M Store at 1600 Broadway. Strange thing for a bunch of guys from Tennessee. There are several units in the building that are rented on a night to night basis, pretty neat spot. One of the guys is there now, says it is in the mid 70's temp wise. Bunch of celebs in the building too.
Anyway, only been there once, neat place. Bring cash. Do some touristy stuff, go to Chinatown, etc. Take the ferry by the statute. Metro museum of art is pretty cool. There is a place right up from the condo that is kind of like a 50's hamburger joint, and the waiters/waitresses all sing, pretty cool. Did I mention bring cash?

Hardcore Matinee. I can't believe that place is still open. To be young and obnoxious again.
Damn. I've been outed.
I will say this. Basom riding a fixie in Billyburg is the first sign of the Apocolypse.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.
i dont go to williamsburg. i air the whole fucking thing when i am riding my fixie to greenpoint.
i mean, please.
williamsburg.
sheesh.
Counselor, you need to put down the OE when you are eating breakfast.
I'm not the malt liquor drinker myself, but I respect anyone who mixes it with waffles.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.
Sorry, I'm still thinking about what I actually will do when I find our friend trying to avoid getting thrown over the fixie handlebars. I may have to kidnap him to Newton, MA, for hipster detox.

go to chinatown.. have dinner at Great NY noodletown
is there gonna be a maggot get together?
Ooohhh... do you all plan that far in advance? I would LOVE to get together for drinks/dinner/whatever! August 22nd is the arrival date (about noon... if American Airlines holds up their end of the bargain) and I'm WIDE open for that night (it's a Wednesday).
Thursday is the play (but would be available before/after... hell, I'm on vacation!).
Already bought the tics for Spamalot, but thanks for the insight on Avenue Q. I really enjoy musicals and (since it won lots of Tony's and I'm a fan) I figured I couldn't go wrong. I'll keep my eyes open, though, when that play hits the LA area.
Other than that... I'm a mountain gal. I love the great outdoors, so I think I'll take Steve's advice and just walk... see where my feet lead me
p.s. I was mugged and pistol-whipped once in Haight Ashbury doing the "just walkin' thang"... so I am fully aware of the need to keep my "wits about me".
I'll post again, as the date gets closer and see who can join me. I know it's midweek, but it sure would be nice to see a few of you again (and meet some more of you).
The mountains are calling and I must go - John Muir
need more info on you, but i know that when i go down there, i enjoy walking around, visiting union square and washington square parks, shopping (i'm a girl) and eating, checking out cool hotels, having drinks and sitting outside on a nice sidewalk patio, going for a run in central park. for me, i try not to leave the SOHO, Greenwich village, NYU area..more peaceful, less hectic, less tourons. The last thing you want to do is go to times square and see a bunch of fatties wallowing around. My favorite place in NYC is washington square. I like getting a book or newspaper and sitting in the sun reading, watching the freaks and also visiting the big giant dog park. yes,the smell of doggie pee will partically knock you out, but its so cute to see 50 dogs of all different sizes running around in a pack together. have to walk around though--so many cool spots to discover that you wont ever see in a cab.
I don't think you need to worry about dangerous stuff. I just meant that there are neighborhoods in Manhattan that are boring and kind of gross. It's easy to get turned around, especially downtown, and wind up in the wig district, or the shitty knockoff designer purse district, or the weird convenience store with window displays that haven't been changed since 1977 district. Those aren't your more desirable districts and should be avoided.
Make sure that you have dinner at Da Silvana. It's on 6th Ave., just south of Houston. It's fun, crowded, and the food is good. The oysters are top drawer, as is the osso buco. In the summer, it is great to eat outdoors.

Meh.
scenester place. i have been dragged here several times for work and would say the food is average at best.
by NYC standards, much better Italian to be had for your buck. don't go for da silvano for the food- it's to see and be seen.
the tripe isn't bad but... you'd do better with Lupa () right around the corner.
I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.
Is Max Fish still open?
True. I have had better Italian at Felidia, Parioli Romanissimo and Il Mulino, but every time I go to Da Silvano I eat good food and see people like Kate Moss, Mick Jaegger, Steffi Graf and Sting. It is not "Meh" for someone visiting NYC.
