seriously. long board day is a labor of passion. and if colorado wants to enter the arena with washington and california, its going to need to take LBD seriously.

thank you lemon boy for highlighting the importance of the maggot history and regulations outlining this event.

Dobish, tell me about the Kazamas. What are they? Hacksaw has offered up a pair of 215 Karhu XCD-GTs but I would ski a pair of 218 Kazamas over them because they are easier to turn.

And I am going old school anyway with red/yellow LifeLink kneepads and shorts over longjohns as well as alpaca hat and blue-blocker sunglasses.

    No comensation issues either.

But I do have transportation issues.

I boiled my thermometer, and sure enough, this spot, which purported to be two thousand feet higher than the locality of the hotel, turned out to be nine thousand feet LOWER. Thus the fact was clearly demonstrated that, ABOVE A CERTAIN POINT, THE HIGHER A POINT SEEMS TO BE, THE LOWER IT ACTUALLY IS. Our ascent itself was a great achievement, but this contribution to science was an inconceivably greater matter.

Long boards tuned (or at least in process) and waiting...

    L-R
Dyna Coupe du Monde, 210, circa '87, (note the black bases) - low miles, almost new
Dyna Super G, 213, circa '79, Primo condition 1st generation super G (I was surprised above when some of you guys were eyeing the "chicken hearts" over these babys which are the real collectors item of the quiver, especially now that FIS is considering doing away with Super G)
Fisher Europa 99, 210, circa '80 - about 55cm tip to tail, straight like arrow, but they do have about 4" of camber.

and for old times sake, Rossi ST, 203, circa '77, with Silveretta cable binders and a gazillion miles.

I, like lemonboy, came up short ended on a couple pairs that I had thought were 217's but in reality were only 213's (tho the "spare" for one pair is a 215).

    and the bonus point gear

Asolo Snowfield, Extreeme tour/tele boots and San Marco AX1-R alpine boots

Agreed on the longboard rule. If it aint 210+ it don't count.

Though a spin on some old school gear can be a good time - just for old times sake.

    ----------------------------

I came to the conclusion that what Ullr really wanted was some longboards tuned, for, last nite, when I took a couple brews out to the shop to do a lil work on the LB's, as soon I touched the scraper to the base, a mighty wind began to blow. Shortly thereafter, when the file began to take bite, a spring rain, with all it's wonderful smells and sounds, started falling in earnst. Then when two pair were properly taken care of and as I headed in for the nite, there was a lull. I noted that the temperature was still quite warm, in the upper 40's, at that late hour as I went to bed.

But in the morning, I awoke to the beauty of Ullr's appreciative gift (even if it did have the consistency of something more suited to the Sierra or the PNW).
It had come down at an incredable rate not seen in these parts very often, adding up to eight inches or more, and then subsided to a more normal pace.

Thanks Ullr. These longboards will be skied in your honor.

Excellent Zappa. Pretty much the same here after I pulled the bindings off the 102s and then it started to rain really good when I got home from picking up a bota bag.

TP- Don't be knockin the LL kneepads, I still use them. Besides, going old school is perfectly fine but it is important to adhere to the spirit and letter of the regulations surrounding LBD.

How to obtain long boards for long board day:

    1. Talk to your skiing buddies, a lot of them will have at least one pair hiding out somewhere
    2. Call around to ski shops, lots of them sell used
    3. Swing by a thrift store
    4. Garage Sales - you should've looked over the weekend but there's one final Friday sale day coming up.
    5. Maggot borrow: mine the local and extended collective for pairs. It's Tuesday and if you move quickly you can probably get a pair shipped for ~30-40 on loan from a W. Coast LBD Hub (ship back via the slow boat for <20). Or sack up to telemark, there'll be a wide array of tele-enabled LBs at LBD, the bindings are much easier to adjust.

Please feel free to add any add'l tips, especially our W.Coast brethren that've had longer to work at it.

If storage is a problem for you: I will take them at the end (you get dibs for following years but otherwise they'll be loaners).

I'm pretty sure with "most" long pairs, you can just leave them in some obscure corner at the ski area and they will be there when you come back next year.

Or stash them under a tree

BTW- the 214 Rossis are spoken for on LBD. Congrats to Berko…they're uhhh…. fun?

In case anyone missed it: LBD lineup is at 9:45am between lifts 1 & 2 although I'm sure that I'll be trying to find some groomie a little earlier before it softens up.

That Super G is nasty, but the "chicken heart" is the Ray Ban Aviator of 80's skis.

    spill it,

    how much?

    Well, twenty thousand nickles

    -or-

Brand new pair of Bro 188 stiffs + new Dynafit Comforts + might as well throw in a FKNA T-shirt and all shipping.

    Which ever is cheaper.

Gyptian- I have some short (190) Course's you can have but the price is that you show for LBD with a set of LBs for trade. (Not to fuck your deal Zappa, your price might in the end be cheaper for him )

you'll note that I hadn't even mentioned them in LBD context other than as an inducement.

A priceless ski or a worthless ski.

but I guess it'd let you add to the ad nauseum reviews in tech talk.

regardless, I'm working on saturday and will be unable to contribute to the cause.

Oh well. One of these days I'll make a fence out of them and you can just come by and steal them...

Thanks for reminding me to find my old adjustable polarization Ray Bans from the fifties tho - I will be stylin with them and even ZZ Top will be jealous.

    Bump... cuz:

    ---------------

So, I called around to some old friends that I used to bum at Loveland with back when we all rode the longboards to see if they wanted to partake...

    Some exerpts follow

"... yeah, I still have the Coupe du Mondes Super G... 217's... Never been mounted... serial number 3"

"...maybe, if there's powder... I'm not skiing those things unless there's powder."

"210's+? That's all I still ski on... vintage clothes? That's all I still use..."

Him: "Yeah, I still have tons of those skis..."
Me: "Maybe you should bring it up and rent it out for the day."
    Him: "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha"

Hell yeah zappa! Got the 102s mounted last night. Given how friggin stiff they are (as or more than the 214s) I thought for sure there'd be a layer of metal but nope, just wood. And enough camber to be some old touring skis jeeze.

That's cuz when Rossi was makin those it was still before the iron age.

This can be verified by the stone edges and lack of any color mud didn't come in.

Fyurk. I will probably be sticking people with needles instead of getting stuck by people's ski poles Saturday. IV clinicals in Denver at 7 am. I'll bring my ski shit just in case I can get out in time.

May not meet you yet, LB.

    Heh,

Rossis, I don’t usually ski on em but these I think I’ll keep:

    Cause, they’re you know…kinda long and kinda…fun.

    Got Camber?

Flat and reverse camber skis are gay.

Berko, are you ready to rumble? Cause these are:

And cause I think it’s neat, you can see the edges through the bases on the 214s

    Sorry it’s so horribly blurry.

Anyone have any 223's I can borrow?

If not, what's the longest you've got that would fit a 335ish boot?
