Rent Jesus Camp. There's a scene in it where a mother declares that if you look at the facts that creationism is the only possibility to her poor, disillusioned son.
Blind faith is such a wonderful thing.

Whats awesome is when Christians compensate their beliefs for shit like intelligent design.
Ok, you guys have some serious misinformation here. Evolution doesn't mean "we all evolved from a single celled organism". Darwin saw that several animals looked similar to each other, and came to the conclusion that organisms with adventitious traits were better suited to their living conditions, and enjoyed better reproductive success. That is what evolution is, the change in allele frequency in a population due to selective pressure.
Now, Logically if two populations of an the same species that are in radically different habitats over time are going to exhibit change due to selective pressure, and over enough time they will change enough that they are no longer able to interbreed, at which point they will become different species. This process is called Speciation. Evolution is a change in genetics due to selective pressure that over time creates enough change to cause speciation.
As for the belief that all organisms share a combined ancestor, that is also fairly well proven by recent sequencing of nucleic, ribosomal and mitocondrial DNA/RNA of different organisms, by morphology, and by the fossil record. There is a also a decent fossil and DNA/RNA record of the evolution of humans from primates. There is very strong evidence that shows there is a link from early primates to monkeys, to apes to australopithcines then to early hominids and then anatomically modern humans. If you take the time to do your research and study these things with an open mind you can see that scientists aren't trying to devalue your religious convictions..
I would like to point out that ID isn't a scientific theory. Its a religious belief (that I believe in btw) and is no way or sort testable by scientific method. Its sad that people try to force it down the throats of teachers and scientists, when it belongs in a religion or theology debate..
on..
Someone wrote that "God created the Heavens and Earth in 7 days and 7 nights. But what is a day to God?
Here's a link that will raise the level of this conversation:
NPR's Fresh Air from WHYY, March 28, 2007 ·
In his most recent book, British scientist Richard Dawkins writes about the irrationality of a belief in God, examines God in all his forms and sets down his arguments for atheism. The book is The God Delusion.
Dawkins is a professor of "the public understanding of science" at Oxford University.
The New York Times Book Review has hailed him as a writer who "understands the issues so clearly that he forces his reader to understand them too."

What odds are better?
That our existence is a fluke, or that God really exists.
(and when I say God, it's not the fictional character man invented to control the masses)

Hey, I'm all for having beliefs and what not and creativity. But theres a point where faith becomes stupidity. You have to reconsider what you believe in a little.
