    Wide brake bindings

    here's the dilemma:

i need ski bindings with wide brakes and am currently looking at a couple of different options

look jib bindings, regular, and bending the brakes (only need to bend 4 mm)

buying the wide brake for $38

buying the wide brake version of the binding for $80 more

i did find some rossi axium 200 with a wide brake for really cheap, but the din only goes up to 10

since look and rossi bindings are made by the same people, are the look jib bindings different from the scratch 120?

i want the Look's because they have shock absorbtion, but i don't know if that even matters, this is my first time buying bindings, my racing skis came with them

only 4mm might fit without any real bending. There's a bit of slop factor in those max brake width mmt's.

    axioms: crap

scratches are the same (except for paint) as the look jib.

bending the brake is by far the cheapest option. especially if it's only 4 mm, the wide option might be too wide.

    mmhm

i thought it would be easier to bend them because the wide brakes would be 16 mm too wide

so the rossis have the shock pad too?
although im pretty sure it doesn't matter

I agree. The regular will probably be wide enough. Next option I'd go the bendy. but don't just yank them wider. If they need to be wider straighten the brake arms, then rebend to the new desired width. Otherwise they'll scrap against the edges right where you need them to be sharp.

If that doesn't work buy the wide brakes and consider the bendy a learning experience. You'll only bust one before you work out how to do it, then you'll know for next time. Having said that they bend pretty easily - you should be fine.

Oh, and I've got some 120 brakes on a 105 ski (15mm overlap) and they work/look fine.

    Good luck,

What I do to bend brakes is put the brake in a vice, then take the a combination wrench and use the circle end to bend the brake out by sliding the brake arm through the circle end of the wrench. I usually start bending with the circle end of the wrench right below the 90 degree bend in the arm. When bent to your desired...uhm, bend...then just take the brake out of the vice and switch sides, then work the other arm.

I'm not sure if this is the right way to do it, but as someone mentioned, it's better than yanking them apart and possibly tweaking out the metal arm. It's worked a couple of times for me as well.

Edit: Yeah hi, just found this a few threads down. Not sure if it's answering your question at all (as with my above statement), but thought I'd share anyway. I can't view the video 'cause it's blocked here at work: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=73273

    take a step back

4mm=.4cm~1/10th of an inch. bend them a little, its a rediculously small amount.
