another to try is St Gervais/Mt Joie (backside of Megeve...but, skip the Megeve frontsides, imho).
Some great off-piste terrain back there. though sadly, i never hit it right.

You can see the snow washing off some parts of the mountain.
This is what I was concenred about earlier, I thought it might rain well above 200m at times.

I think it has cooled off a little though. Absolutely pouring in lausanne today, so hopefully this is snow.

Ya still snow here in Leysin, they were forcasting it to change over to snow at 1800h, but it did at about 1300h...hopefully this means we may get a bit more then forecasted. G3000 should be rediculous when this clears and it opens up. Even bernuse should be decent if its seen snow this whole time!

Crazy day in Grands Montets today.

Went up just after 10am, snow level then was up to 1900mt. Up Bochard, -2C at the top station (2750ish). Windy&foggy. Went up Herse, then far skiers right next to the rockface was $$$$$$$. Unusually quiet in there, and nice pow till 2200ish, a little wet and heavy below but still nice. Then around noon it started DUMPING. Probs 15-20cm till 4pm. Runs down the Magic forest, and skiers right from there, ending in the cat that goes down to retour pendant, were great. Every run it kept improving considerably, becoming deeper and less wet. Pretty hairy conditions though, the cold snow that fell after noon easily slabbing away atop the previous wet snow. By 4pm the snow level was down to about 1100mt....

Right now, there's a snowstorm in cham city. Must be windy as fuck up high.

We've just had flashes of lightening here and thunder... I thought it was an avalanche about to head down on the house!

After I got over the shock of rain this morning the temperature suddenly dropped 4 degrees at noon and it started snowing down to about 1200 meters. However take a lot of care tomorrow, especially as the afternoon promises to be sunny and on Thursday which should be sunny all day after fresh snow on Wednesday.

Got up very late today (was still working at 3am...thats my excuse). Only made 2 laps before the lifts shut due to wind. Knee to Waist deep up high. Enough had fallen in the parking lot wilst skiing to ski back to the car....

This was not fasr off the valley floor

Couldn't see where I was going above treeline, but down low you got a few yards of visability.

in the "rila lakes" area of the rila mountains. it's a cirque popular with backcountry skiers. there are managed huts and a small rope tow on the side:

f2f posted the image here 5 mins after I put it on the befsa site !!
Roo the Rila lakes are about 6-8 hours of hiking away from the Rila monastery, you can actually ski down to the monastery if you get the right snow/avalanche conditions..
Here's a better shot of the cirque, taken yesterday ..

There's plenty of snow up there these days, and it's a sweet place to practice skiing steep terrain.. fun for the whole family..

    Ripzalot,

The 116cm looks to be an error. I'm told it's actually the level of snow at 1860cm and the total new snow in the last 24hours is around 40cm.

The freezing level started pretty high yesterday and then unexpectedly dropped (which was nice). Alpe d'Huez got 38cm in the village. Starting to look properly white now.

    depends where you are

and even then it's not yet certain how warm and when, but sat/sun should see frezing levels at 2500m+ in the northern alps. the south side should stay colder. as does the east.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
