yeah, last year i got to la grave the first day of feb and the conditions were shit, and then it started snowing and basically carried on snowing until april!

i should be there now for the season, i've been paying for a place out there since jan 1st, but i've had a torn muscle and not been able to ski yet.

Not too bad then, considering anything below 2000m is a right off this season anyway.

Here's a good weather site for those interested (don't think I already posted it):

    http://meteo-chamonix.org/

    BTW, it's in French.

Last weekend everything north facing off piste above 2000m had excellent snow with the snowpack obviously being deeper the higher up one went. Given the last bit of snow this week, conditions should be good up high this weekend.

A surprising amount of fresh snow up high. 40cm+ on the Grands Envers, slightly heavy but great to finally get some fresh coverage up there.

Who's up for some skiing this weekend? Give me a call or email.

Is that second pic skier's right off the Vallonet chair at Vaujany?
It is on the col du Cluy, which was closed to traffic.

I'm glad you didn't have to see what I saw Roo, you would have wept. It is like meeting up with an old friend after a bad road accident. Not pretty. I hope the next few days covers up some of the carnage.

I don't want to piss in the soup of the people who are making a living from the European mountains. We've found good conditions most of the season as you can see from some vids:

Col du Tepey - 4 Feb

    Vaujany - 7 Dec

etc etc. So don't cancel your trips, especially as things may be about to come good.

but rather than just pointing your skis downhill as we've done the last couple of seasons you need to really think where you are going. F'example the Pic d'Etendard from St Sorlin is supposed to be great, so a tour over that way from Alpe d'Huez would probably be fun - maybe with a helitaxi return (not that I would want to encourage helicopter use in the Alps).

Lets hope we get another 30-50cm over the weekend.

Big fat wet flakes falling in Cham at the moment. Brevent and Flegere were ok today, started snowing aorund mid day, 5cms or so by 4pm at 1800mt. Good fun skiing some of the lesser known runs in flegere with the covering on top- very quiet today... the off piste was a combination of chopped up ice with todays covering, so not a world of fun.

Identical to what powders said at Les Grands Montets today. The conditions in the cafe were phenomenal, however, and it was great to see it snowing fairly hard up there.

I bet the Aig du Midi is powpow land again even from today and there's tons more in the forecast.

    About friggin time!

I'm wondering whether we should rename this thread "rain for the euros". It was lashing down to 1800m yesterday and it is currently +3.5C at 1800m with rain to 2100 m at the mo and predicted to go as high as 2400m in some parts of the French alps today. You can see the snow washing off some parts of the mountain.

two good days (overall....) in verb, with pockets of new snow where the nasty wind was not able to fu@k it. tracked vallon (in veeeery good and untracked conditions if you traverse as high and long as possible after the col de mines), same for col de mouche, same for the final part of the creblet (the col itself has been killed by wind, though). Almost everything else we tried was killed by wind. Now is snowing

Sweet man, I went out saturday but didnt spot you, I was only up there for about 2 hours. Supposed to actually snow here in town tonight, and once berneuse does open again it should be heaps better. Thursday is looking to shape up to be a Verbier or Diablerets day---

Backside of Le Tour today. Rain/Snow level bounced between 1300m and ~1700m. Thin down low but give us another 20cm and that area will be rocking. Even today there's enough to link up some great turns... slightly heavish pow even at the top (moving to glue down low) but it's only 2270m up there. Top of the Grands or the Midi (as well as Mont Fort, G3000, etc.) will be EPIC when it clears.

So nice to see it finally snowing!!!
