    Hestra Owning Mags

What are you using to treat your gloves? I've got the Freeride vertical cuts and I treated them with the stuff that came with the gloves (it rubs the lotion on the skin) and after a rather moist day in Fernie I am soaked straight through and my hands are dyed yellow. Am I kidding myself that these such offer a little more water pro or am I after something like a Nix wax product?

How long did you go between treatments? This is my first year on Hestras, but I think re-applying some sort of leather waterproofer once every month or so is the answer, just like with hiking boots or whatever.

They're brand spanking new, cracked them out of the box day one of the season, was planning on doing reg treatments like you said but maybe I'll look for a better product. Anyone?

I've used wax waterproofer (glove glue) in the past on my Hestra gloves and then baked them for 5min to let the leather absorb as much wax as possible. I too had my hands soaked the first day i wore mine but after applying the wax and doing so continually i haven't had any problems. Not bad gloves, they just dont come waterproofed.

Anyway, head to the Guide's Hut and get yee some Nikwax leather waterproof goo. Treated my Work Gloves before the season and my hands stayed dry today (unlike the rest of me).

    Snow seal.
    1. Preheat oven to 175 degrees.
    2. Bake gloves for anout ten minutes or until hot to touch non a sheet of tinfoil.
    3. Apply liberal amount of snow seal to both (I put the gloves on and rub together).
    4. Re bake until all the snow seal is absorbed, approx five mintes.
    5. Repeat until gloves won't take any more, about four to six apps.
    6. Place in freezer until set.

When you take the gloves out of the freezer they will be really stiff, flex your fingers and you'll see excess snow seal squeezing out and cracking off. They will wear in appropriately with use. This method should get you through a hundred day season but you can heat the gloves above a radiator (not ON it) to re-up the effect. You can also reapply as necessary.

    Spot on.

I never did the freezer deal, but will try that now, thanks!

Sno Seal is the one I keep going back to even when I try something else. It simply works. And my hiking boots love it too.

Sno Seal, I didn't know they still made it. I started using it 30+ years ago. I finally used up the last of my stash, and have been using Nix wax since, with less the perfect results. I have not seen the stuff in stores since forever, where are you getting it these dasy?
