    FOBP On-Snow Avy Course; 01/13/07 & 01/14/07

    Hello Friends,

Hope everyone has had the opportunity to get out & enjoy some excellent early season conditions. The Pass has been getting some good snow and is shaping up for yet another great season.

We are pleased to see so many people invest their time into learning more about backcountry safety. Our Classroom Sessions reached out to hundreds of people both along the front range & the mountain communities. Many of you have been anticipating the On-Snow portion of our class, and we are gearing up to make these the best yet! Many thanks should go out to Halsted Morris as well as our Volunteer Avy Facilitators who have all successfully completed our own Facilitator Training course with Halsted.

We are now ready to take reservations for the On-Snow portion of our Avalanche Class! Participants from previous years' FOBP On-Snow Sessions have been boasting about the incredible benefit & value from being out in the field applying what they had learned in the classroom.

Each participant has the option to register for ONE of the following dates:

    Saturday, January 13, 2007
    OR
    Sunday, January 14, 2007

We will meet promptly at 8:00am in the main Berthoud Pass parking lot (look for our white ez-up tent w/ FOBP banner). Following registration we will break into groups and get on the trailhead right away. We will take a quick lunch break around noon, and be finished by around 3:00pm. Please come prepared to be outside the entire day, with plenty of warm clothing, sunscreen, water, and food.

On your chosen day, we will be covering such topics as Berthoud Pass geography, smart decision-making, route selection, snowpack & snowpit evaluations, ascending & descending protocols, beacon use, and practice rescue scenarios.

Prerequisites for the On-Snow Sessions are the following:

Must have attendend any FOBP Avalanche Awareness Classroom session taught by Halsted Morris.

Must be a current '06-07 FOBP member. Not a Member? Click here to join:

I didn't make the classroom session, but I would gladly support FOBP and attend this workshop if you have available space.
    Thanks.

emphasis added. I think they're pretty serious about each of the pre-req's so that everyone in one of the groups has the same info and the same primer.

Looks like this weekend should be prime for observing high avy danger at BP.
