I guess Teton Pass is on!

Seeing as I found out yesterday I am having knee surgery, I guess that's about perfect timing. Count on some pow, kids. You're fucking welcome.

Snow accumulation of up to 1" tonight? Please. What? Are they on crack? It has been snowing here in Driggs all day. Looks like the rest of the week is going to rain and maybe snow...Bwahhh! Ok I probably officially jinksed it but I am thinking now that Rideit's knee injury over rules my jinks and I will be again enjoying pow turns on opening day this Friday. WTF did you do to your knee mang?

rideit...sorry to hear. is it serious? that's a major bummer.

after the rain & such, i'm not venturing up on the pass for a bit. this snow is great, but there are still gonna be tons of rocks around -- was looking kind of bare this past week.

let's see if it keeps up!

(hate that i have to travel out of town next week just as the snow comes in.)

It turns out I have been limping around on a torn miniscus all summer since whistler. Shouldn't be too traumatic.
    I trust Dr. Rork completely.

I *might* go up to Targhee and hit a lap anyway. Thanks for the vibeage, folks!

damn...is he thinking trim or repair??

snow was funky on the pass. it was actually tough to hike in as the surface was very firm under 3-10" of drifts. sometimes i'd get a full sole in, then the next step i could barely kick my toe in at all and would slide down. the skiing was not bad.

my truck actually slid out on the way down the pass. that gives you an idea of the stability -- a decent amount of heavy snow not bonding to an icy layer underneath.

we'll see if it keeps up.

i overlaid my track over a sat photo. wonder when this was taken as the snow looks like it slid over the road in a few spots.

by now you surely realize that forecasts for the mountains aren't terribly precise. i did hear about a cool new program by the NWS to address that issue. they're recruiting people to take measurements daily all over mountain regions and submit them, so that forecasts can become more precise for microclimates and mountainous regions.

it probably takes 1 minute/day, and the most likely folks to participate are those that already pay attention to their local weather.

    in other words: nothing.

They don't give a monkey's poop, If you stay outta Grant's way. May be skinning up manana.

Caveat: They are a little uptight about dogs. Just keep em' leashed until you are motoring, and no probs, usually.

JHMR is cool with it, until the patrol really starts gearing up (~1 wk before opening), i find.

last year, there were some good powder days off of rendezvous in mid- to late-nov.

Huck a 240+ footer to your head. Go for it! Huck a triple back, yawn. Ski beyond the closed signs and nobody gives a shit. You really think they give a flyiing rats ass if you skin up early season here? The answer is no, in case you had not already guessed.

it's a worthwhile question, as sometimes crews are working hard to get the mountain ready for opening day, and i would bet nhtele is asking b/c he wants to have a good time but not f- any of that up.

i think the problem in idaho is that nobody seems to give a shit about what happens...developmentally speaking. (not that SRA is any great example...rode my bike to the village the other day and almost cried seeing how much dirt they'd already moved)

i hope neither side of the pass gets f-ed up with ill thought-out expansion.

Rideit – good luck with the knee! Is this killing your season or just a couple months? Either way, stay strong an kick ass in rehab. Rork fixed my torn ACL in ’93 and did a damn fine job with it.
