Posted: 9:03 AM- The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office uncovered an elaborate marijuana-growing operation early this morning in Salt Lake City.
The suspect has a homicide conviction on his record, so deputies called in the SWAT team to serve the warrant around 4:30 a.m. at 759 S. Kilbourne Court, according to sheriff's spokesman Paul Jaroscak.
Once inside, they found "a very, very sophisticated marijuana-grow operation," he said. "It was hydroponic - no soil. It's grown in water, with water pumped in and out of tubs. He had pipes and lights on timers, a venting system. He even had a surveillance camera on the outside."
The plants occupied several rooms in the home, according to their size, Jaroscak said.
Deputies were still counting this morning, but had recovered at least 60 marijuana plants of varying sizes.
The owner, John Scott Beverleigh, 52, and Angela Rekoutis, 28, of Salt Lake City, were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana.
