I hauled it in most of the way and didn't have to deal w/ it on the way out. We passed a group whilst skining up to the hut...like 5 grrls and 2 guys. I'll always remember one of the girrls saying something like "I hope we left you some fresh tracks". Pfffft. They didn't even go up to the pass. After digging a few pits, we nailed Jacque's Ridge, Searle Pass of course, Elk Mtn., "Prospects" and a group even headed out to Jacque Peak (I think that's in-bounds Copper Mtn. now).

The place looked like a ski resort after our group left since it was Springtime and we had 9" fresh one morning (Copper Mtn. was closed when we exited). Something like 15 of us were up there off and on over the 4 days. Topo maps are your friend:

How long was your trip? Because in one day, we only really had the time to do Sugarloaf. We probably could've done Elk as well, but the snow was nasty, there was a helluva lotta wind-loading, and our real goal was Sugarloaf. On Day 3, during the skin out, we were planning on hitting Jacques Ridge, but we just didn't have the time.

I guess you just have to provoke the JONGS a little and they come out with the TRs.

Rose, those were some kick-ass pictures! Been to many 10th Mt huts, never been to Janets. Now I definitely want to go.

There is a lot of good sking near Janet's. Jaque's Peak has some amazing lines but is a good ski from the hut.

Very nice snowpit work. Who was your instructor?

Well, he isn't an "official" avy instructor. He is an Aspen Ski instructor, and me and my two friends have been skiing with him for about 10 years, since we were like 5 or 6. Basically, he's a "friend" now, and takes us out on these tours in the BC. He has tought us how to apline, tele, he has tought us avy safety, life in the BC, etc., etc.

Privates at Keystone cost like $500 a day. Can't imagine how much in Aspen. Do you pay him now to take you into the backcountry, or how does all that work?

Well technically, he is my friend's ski instructor, so they pay the regular rate. My family and my other friend's family pitch in to pay the tip. It's still alot, but the load is certainly lightened by the fact that we split it.

As for taking us into the backcountry, we don't pay for that. After 10 years of skiing with him, my family and the other familes have become really close friends with him, and anything done "out of uniform" (like a BC trip), is just done as friends.
