Was planning on heading to Adams this coming weekend. I would be skiing, but friends hiking. It's received 20" of snow since Sunday, but weather calming down between now and Saturday. Avalanche reporting is done for the year. While I've climbed Adams in July, I've never skied it or gone this early. I know it's generally lower risk for avalanche, but not sure if the new snow will be settled enough. Any additional resources for me to look at beyond the FS and NWAC websites?

There were 70 mph wind gusts yesterday, and a warming trend is coming (no below-freezing temps even at the summit on Thursday and Friday).
My take is that the new snow will likely not be settled and certainly hasn’t been through a freeze-thaw cycle.
My friends and I canceled our plans for Adams this Friday - we’ll see what next week brings

Skied Baker via the Squak this morning, dropped from the summit around 11, snow was nice down to around 7000ft where it turned to tedious mush, mostly melted out below 4700ft. The upper mountain is very filled in, perhaps fatter than the last time I was up there late May 2022.

We just moved down to WA last week and are missing the ocean and a little overwhelmed by all the people and traffic. Went over to Port Townsend on Thu and now the wife wants to spend a long weekend, i.e. half a paycheck there, lol.
We did go to Sea Js and I will admit the halibut was solid. Definitely the kick I needed to start getting the boat put together so I don't have to spend the other half of my paycheck on fish!
BTW: Sea Js was cash only. $55 for a ten piece fish & chips with slaw and 4 pieces of garlic bread. More than enough for 2 or 3 people.
It’s a really interesting year, where the talk is it’s about 70% or whatever snow pack, yet at anything over 6000 feet there’s way more snow than the last few years.Quote:
