go to babbo a block from washington square park and across from washington square hotel. awesome food--cool joint. i usually stay there when i am in town and have been to babbo many times. i like sitting outside at blue water grill for lunch and babbo for dindin. and lots of wine at both places.
Black Bear Lodge for $3 Guinness. Ideya for the best mojtos in the city. 2nd floor of the Thompson Hotel for leche martinis. The Box for a scene. Oh wait, that's my weekend coming up.
Mmm beef cheek ravioli :) do you do the tasting menu or just order off the menu? generally i create my own tasting menu there but can never decide what to do. I always stress out beforehand about what to order :) what do you think of the gnocchi? I actually was surprised that I liked lupa's better.
Last time at babbo, here was what we had:
Appetizers:
Wine - "Balbium" 2003, Terre di Balbia
Lamb Tongue Vinagerette
Buffalo Mozzarella Special
Wine - Kerner 2004, Valle Isarco
Pasta:
Beef Cheek Raviloi
Wine - Soave Classico 2004, Coffele
Black Spaghetti
Wine - Collio Bianco Dario Raccaro 2004
Gnocchi with Oxtail
Main:
Wine - Cabrnet Sauvignon 1998, Isole & Olena
Grilled Guinea Hen
Dessert:
Wine - Prosecco di Vladobbiadene N.V., Drusian
Saffron Pana Cotta
Choclate Hazzelnut Cake
haha :) i did a writeup about it on chowhound afterwards, that was the only reason I had it all written down in the first place. also nice to keep the wine on file for future pairings since i am a wine noob.
i'm envious you go so frequently! the reservation policy makes it tough, i only get to go to Babbo like once a year. then again, i spend the entire year anticipating that one evening, so i guess it makes it worth it?
I like the lardo at Babbo, when they have it- pure fat, cut from the back of pigs fed nothing but apples and cream, then dried for pure salty pleasure. It's like the essence of bacon, triple-distilled.
Geh.. all this NYC talk.
I might be back in about a month. Had a good trip there in April (other than flying back and totalling my car and the person I flying in to see only being there a day) but a Yankee game, The American Museum of Natural History, getting disgustingly drunk on the Upper West Side, etc.. all very fun.

Go to the central park zoo. I've been to nyc a bunch and did that the last time i was there during the day with a couple friends and it turned out to be a blast. You forget how cool the zoo is when you're older. But man polar bears and penguins rock! And the rainforest they have is pretty rad too.
Just hit the Modern yesterday. Nice collection of Serra sculptures. Older school New Yorkers may remember his Tilted Arc downtown that was taken away after much hate mail. I think they looks out of place in the new, sterile Modern space - check his stuff out up at the Dia in Beacon. An old factory works better.
Hot damn... you guys/gals are awesome! Thank you for all the information! There are some great websites here and more than enough options for me for a two night venture!
You all rock!!!
dont be surprised. the only thing maggots are good for is talking about how awesome the place is where they are from, or currently live. everyone wants to show off thier knowledge and style in these threads. it doesnt matter if its info about las lenas/aspen/boston/or kansas; people love to post in these types of threads.
also: if you dont go on a fixie ride with me and put up some anti eminent domain graffiti then you are totally missing out!
The only thing I really want to see in NYC is the American Museum of Natural History. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing other sites, but I am a natural history museum buff, and the American is one of the top in the world.
