When I lived over that way, occasionally when the lake was still unfrozen, during sub-zero cold snaps a cloud bank would form about 200-300 ft above the lake and just hang there. Perfectly clear everywhere else. Would have been a pretty cool shot given a good vantage point.

Edit: Like this shot of yours above but with blue sky and the ADKs behind the low cloud bank.

Kind of like this? I am constantly impressed how dynamic the view out over the lake is. I work from a home office that looks out over the lake and get to watch it all day long.

Lake Champlain is just big enough to create a bit of its own weather. Having a front row seat must be nice.
