Tried Masterson's yet? Very nice.

Old Grand Dad 114 FTW. If only SC/NC stocked some Weller 12 I wouldn't need anything else. Still haven't opened my expensive stuff because I see no reason to. Tho the William LaRue Weller Antique collection will have to go soon.
My favorite value Bourbon with good taste to have neat is 'Eagle Rare' 90 proof & sells for something like $25-28, aged for 10 years. If I'm going higher, I'll take some Blanton's.
...a question and an answer...
i haven't followed this thread that closely, as i don't drink much bourbon, is that still the focus or could/should it be a general good whiskey thread?
answer: Forty Creek Barrel Select Canadian Blended Whisky.
fucking delicious, aged in cognac barrels. Dude is a recovering winemaker in Ontario, stoked to be an indy Canuckbooze creator.
better, smoother and cheaper than Crown. I don't say that lightly...
Forty Creek is definitely good whisky.
Canadian whisky seems to be undergoing a revival.
Another really good one is Alberta Premium's Dark Horse. A rye blend that includes around 10% bourbon (to bring the thread back on track).
Without rules we'd all be up trees flinging feces at eachother for dominance. . . or just post on TGR.
Back to bourbon, anyone had Lexington yet? I was given a bottle from a buddy at a party we hosted recently.
Not sure what the price point is, but it hit (to me at least) those Buffalo Trace notes. 87 I think and looks like it's from Bowling Green, KY (Hilltoppers?) but going to the website it's Western Spirits?
Not bad for a free fifth of bourbon to add to the rack if you ask me.
EDIT: Oh, and it's named after the thoroughbred, not the town too fwiw.
I know this is a bourbon thread and I do love bourbon and rye....but I'm just gonna throw this out there...
Calvados. Awesome.
That is all.
I just picked up my bottles of Pappy 23 and 15. Stoked!
Haha, the 23yr old certainly wasn't cheap, but the the 15yr was only $80
For you people who can even find PVW any vintage :the_finge, None to be had here. Cruiser recommended both Noah's Mill and Rowan's Creek. After having sampled both. Each is excellent.
Remember those Peanuts comics that started out "Happiness is..."?
We'll let me tell you what unhappiness is. Open invite to Proof on Main at the 21c in Louisville this week for the swine and Pappy event. James Beard-Award winning food and chefs and open pours of every Van Winkle product. - And not being able to make it, but able to read and see all the glory it was from your friends on Facebook.
Bullshit.
Vibes+++++
Pretty cool diagram about Bourbon. See the article here: http://www.gq.com/life/food/201311/b...ter_gqmagazine
For you Colorado folks: Tin Cup Whiskey from the Stranahan folks (which I hate).
Not much on Google, but a really nice sipper. Whiskey up front, bourbon in the rear. I like it a lot. Very impressed. Smooth, then a tiny bit of smoke/barrel. Yum. Good shit.
And it takes a lot to impress my palate. I think they knocked this one out of the park. I'll go on record. No idea of how many bottles/barrels.
We have it. Runs ~$30/btl.

Anyone tried George T. Stagg Jr.? I did some interweb shopping last night after a few drinks and was so excited to see GTS available I ordered 2 bottles before I noticed the Jr. Reviews on it aren't great.
Just visited a mega liquor store in KY that was bourbon heaven ,and was very pleased with their recommendation of Rowan's Creek. At $30 and 100 proof, it beats Blanton's for me.
MTM - I'm not a huge fan of Stranahan's either, seems too harsh to me. Is that your dislike as well? Interested to try the Tin Cup, but not sure if I want to splurge for a whole bottle.
CO Folks - Any other CO Bourbons that are on par with Breckenridge? That's currently my favorite, but would love to try another CO distillery.
Just ordered a bottle of this: http://m.klwines.com/p/i?i=1142790&sku=1142790
Should be interesting
Was it the The Party Source? If so that place is heaven on earth. It's WalMart sized and nothing but booze and booze accessories. They even broke ground on their own on-site distillery.
Got it. Tried it. Big flavor, 134.5 proof. I let it sit in a Glencairn glass w/ a small ice cube for a few minutes. Lots of cherry, vanilla and oak. The finish is extremely long w/ less burn that you'd expect. I'm usually good for 2-3 glasses after dinner. This was one and done. More of a special occasion/I'm going to impress a friend than an everyday sipper. IMHO a good value at $48 a bottle. (re: Stagg Jr.)
Got What?
Never mind - GTS Jr.
LLS held a Pappy raffle tonight to dispose of their 16 bottles of allotted Van Winkle tonight. Show up get a ticket between 6 and 7 and then at 7 if your number was call called you could buy whatever you wanted. There was 1 15 y/o bottle, various 10 Van Winkles, Ryes and some very choice 20-some-odd year Jeffrsons.
MY TICKET WAS CALLED FIRST!!!
Long story short I paid way too much to add that 15 to my collection (which won't be opened till May) and even had offers in the lot up to $600 for it. No sale fellas.
It now sits among my Black Maple Hill, Woodford Double Oak, Single barrel Four Roses, Eagle Rare 17, and copious Woodford among others.
Super stoked!
Suntory buys Beam/Makers:

eh? I think by law, they can't reuse the barrels. Cooper protection act.
the owner of my local described Beam as massively dysfunctional. that true?
and fuck, is there anywhere that ships Virginia Gentleman?
The yearly allotment if VW 10 has become pretty consistent. Right before Christmas, making it difficult not to buy and share w family. The price is up again. It's damn nice, and well rounded for a 10 year, but definitely not the bargain it used to be. Gotta get my hands on some Weller 10.
