that's because you didn't roll to the hill in style in the Mustang, dude!

OH! That totally reminds me....as we were rolling up to Kirkwood yesterday morning, I saw a snowbank sticking out into the road with some bamboo poles in it...I thought to myself, "hey, bet there's a car in there".
As we were leaving, people were digging out a mustang from under an 8 foot snow bank....:fmicon: WHY OH WHY didn't I get a picture???
Si mon oncle avait les tetons, il serait ma tante, et si ma tante avait les balles, elle serait mon oncle.
At least that's how I remember it, but my French is rusty. Anyway, it translates as if my uncle had tits, he'd be my aunt, and if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
Yeah, yesterday was super boring. I mean, I really shouldn't have rallied up only 12 hours after flying in from Guam, leaving the fam to wonder how they failed in raising me if the first thing I do when I get home is leave.
But after 6 weeks of tropical fun in the sun, I had to catch up on the wintertime action. So after I found out that I missed the 666/Skimoore/Jason day tripper, I decided that the forecast was good enough to warrant a solo "day plus" trip.
There I was, rocking the brand new unmolded boots (ow), rental poles (oops), and Caltrans uniform (slow/stop) enjoying a standard-issue KW super posse where you start out w/ 10, then filter back in 2's and 3's or 5's or 6's and just rip it up! Sweet!
Unfortunately my day ended a bit earlier than I hoped and I'm certainly not skiing today (or maybe for a while), but it was worth it.
lph has the pics. ;)
Hop's 40ft front flip = CHAMP
Hope you didn't injure yourself too badly.
Why does my neck hurt from such a boring day yesterday?
yesterday was a lot of fun. Best powder day for me since I missed last Friday.
Two pics from yesterday:

Not sure who this is, but took a pic of him after I came through there.

What ja_surf said. I am actually in a ski lease right now on West lake, right across from Sunnyside Restraunt if you know where that is. We crammed in 15 people for around 650 bucks each. We have the place from Jan 5 - May 5. We can go up anytime we want, its ours for the Winter. HIGHLY recommended if you can afford it, although some weekends the house is an absolute zoo.Quote:
Ski lease thing? Details?
$650/each for the entire year?
Yeah just a one-time payment of 650 covered it. We also factored in Utilities, firewood, plowing etc and included it in the "join" fee each person paid. That is on the cheaper side for leases though, most go for around 800+. For me the biggest priority was cost, not if it had a hot tub etc. It would have been even cheaper if we decided to cram more people in.
you and me both. After I hit something hard on baby Kodak, I was a bit gun shy. In retrospect, I kinda wish I had done little Danger after Hop did it, as it was a bottomless soft landing. (I was standing 40 feet from where he landed and couldn't say I even heard him touch down.)
I cannot believe this video didn't make an appearance in the Tahoe's Firing!!!! thread......
Well, the results are in. Looks like my attempts at radness resulted in a class II MCL, so I'm probably out for another month or so. But hey, after missing the all-time PNW early season and then an extra six weeks of ho-hum conditions, what's another month? By the time I get back everything will be totally super good to go and everyone will be sand-free. :)
I took all of lph's pics and will write up a "hop's perspective" TR once I get home.
You DID NOT go all injured-reserve list on us wihtout skiing at least one day up here.
eh bummer on the MCL. But you got totally rad and like you said, "it had to be done" so you definitely have satisfaction in that.
like i said on the phone the other night, the same thing basically happened to me a few years ago on my first attempt at heart. beatered a little on the landing and class II MCL tear. i think my ortho said something like just rest it 4 - 6 weeks and you'll be good to go. 'twill be a small bump in the road.
I just looked at the calendar, and it's March 1. Assuming I'm out about a month, I should be back in action by early April, and there should be pelnty of season left by then! Now, how about calling me back?!??!? :):FIREdevil
And yep Mr. Shoe, if had not flipped off that thing I would have been super el pissed-offo at myself. I was dreaming about doing something like that for six weeks straight while on the boat and given the conditions and general level of stoke going around, it had to be done. It felt good all the way around until I was just about to land. "Hrm, I'm not really facing down the fall line like I should be..." At least I got it once (and little and big Danger) before that. :)
Bummer about the MCL. At least you went down swinging.
BTW, good to ski with everybody again. Now back to skiing with Ole for a couple of weeks.
Heal up proper, Hop. It was fun to ski with you again if just for a few hours.
here is one of the many skiers dropping big jims on tuesday
chumy, did they pop estelle and high T today? I was fried after the last 2 epic days + had to get back to reality/bay area and get some work done before I got fired  but i was thinking today (while in a meeting) how $$ High Beav was gonna be after lower Beav yesterday! way to git sum.
So in other words, you broke a nail. :nonono2:
Just kidding, man. That fucking sucks. Still, it's great that MCLs generally heal on their own. I tweaked mine a couple of years back at Mammoth and was good to go after about a month. Hopefully we'll see you around again. Or perhaps I'll have to come up your way and get bitch slapped by Baker again.
Tell me about MCL tears. I had a grade I MCL strain with a very small tear (or so the doc said) 6 years ago. Did 2 months of PT 1x a week. Every now and then, when I ride hard, the knee gets sore and a 3-4" long bruise shows up on the left side below the MCL. It's not anything bad, icing it down gets rid of the pain and the bruise goes away after a few days. Anyone experience this?
Yeah, you'll probably see me soon enough. Shoe reminded me that the KW comp was happening around the end of March, so that's a good goal to work towards. At the very least I should be able to ski in and park it at the bottom of the Cirque with some beers in hand. :)
Bummer about the mcl Hop. I got some nice drogasover here in acl recovery land if ya want some! :D As I recall, mcl probs can hurt pretty good! Heal up fast!
Hah, I thought I was the only dumbass who hurt himself this week... Somehow I managed torqueing my shoulder on a flat landing from a 20 footer. Wednesday night - couldn't even put my own socks on. Today - a lot better. Praying to be able to ski by this sunday!
Zack's video has me so stoked!
Silverado is open:the_finge ing at Squaw today for the first time since this storm cycle started

man, i need help. years ago it was smack and now its untracked powpow. the 1st step is admitting to ullr and myself that i am powerless over my urge to ski untracked lines. well, i got that one down but like they say its impossible to quit if i'm really not ready to quit so those next 11 steps are gonna have to wait. and w/ the conditions in tahoe right now, there's no fucking way i'm ready to quit. been skiing through the pain of a jacked back w/ bruised ribs but when i'm skiing i forget all about it.
"hollywood" this am was unreal. little 2" slabs on the very top and then bomber stability in $$$ pow down a classic avy path. and from my jobsite (and the whole town of myers) i'll be ogling our tracks all day today thinking about when i can get some more. word is the gardnerville run is firing so tomorrow some 4-5,000' lines will go down. only downside is the northerly flow thats coming in this morning w/ those nasty fucking east winds planning on showing up later. hopefully they aren't too bad so you weekend warriors can get some of what is the best conditions in a few years round these parts. if you own touring gear, you'd be a fool not to use it this weekend if the resorts are played. git sum!!!!!
I slept horrible with nightmares about them opening the hikes without me yesterday so I woke up, called in sick, packed my stuff and headed for alpine. Unfortunately some idiot on 80 crashed and after 2.5 hours I barely made it to soda springs so I made the call to hit Sugar Bowl instead. After being initially disappointed, the day turned out better than I ever could have hoped. They dropped the ropes to crows nest and I had as many fresh tracks as I wanted. We are talking not opened in 5 days over the shoulder blower first tracks. Only a few other people sessioning back there! Incredible! Mixing that with some fun soft goods on Disney and Lincoln made for a great morning and mid day. In the afternoon they opened the gates to upper roller pass/judah. I followed a guy breaking trail and scored more choking blower for the rest of my day!! Man I needed that and I slept like a baby last night.:D
And the TR is where??? :)
ps. Tahoe is firing!
