    Avie Footage

You guys may have seen the edited version of this, but here is the raw version.

    Location: Outside Whistler.
Story: I'm waiting for some skiers to figure out their line, and am shooting them while they are on top. It's a beautiful day, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Then the guide, who is trying to ski around the cliffs, sets off a slide, and I scramble to shoot it. My roller-coaster of emotions go from:

1)I'm bored. Wish I was skiing these lines.
    2)Slide! Anyone caught?
3)No one's caught, radio the news to the skiers.
    4)Sweet footage! Let's zoom out!
5)Oh crap, I'm buried. Give my best to broadway.
6)Phew, it's just a powder cloud, nothing more.
7)I have no rain cover on this $100,00 camera and it's gonna be drenched.
8)Maybe my hand will do the trick.....

All in the span of......5-10 seconds?

It's OK to admit if you pooped your pants. I don't think anyone would blame you.

    Fack.
I feel a little queezy since it brought back my own not so fun adventure of staring up at the Great White Death coming at me.
Similar sensation of being caught flatfooted on what you thought was a safe bench beyond the runout.

    I know the feeling.

I can't wait for the sequel.

It was just spray that got to me, as there was a huge gully between me and the slide. The guide put me in a good place, as usual. It would be kinda bad for his rep if he set off a slide right into where he put me. But when it was first coming at me, it was easy to forget this. It took a second to register what was going on.

No poopa my pantelones, luckily I took a big cleansing duker a couple hours before. Otherwise, who knows.

Lee, it's just a short pitch on a small random shoulder way outside Pemberton, so it shouldn't look familiar. I think it's more of a heli-accessed thing, I don't think it's too easy to get to by sleds. But I wasn't really paying attention to sled acess when we were there. Usually I do.

Sequel? I come back and pound that slope with my bare fists. Take that, bitch.

slippy = i took this picture of my wife on a 35+ degree slope on Balu Pass in the Connaught Crk drainage in Rogers Pass. Two turns later she cut a thin slab that sluffed off the top and went straight for me. I totally forgot I had set up on a ridge line off to the side and was whimpering and yelling oh shit. The three guys on the other face that yelled "AVALANCHE" didn't help me think straight. And I didn't even have the presence of mind to keep shooting.

the sluff went off to the side; my pants stayed unsoiled

You sir are a true professional!

I love the hand over the 100k camera. It's the new hot avy device.

All friggin season I'd see these guys take tumbles with their 60lbs packs full of about a half mil worth of camera gear and everytime they'd re-tell their story, the first thing out of their mouth wasn't about twisting a knee, slamming their heads on the rocks below or anything remotely related to physical pain. Every fuckin time they would say something like
"I thought shit! don't land on the camera, jason's gonna kill me!"

All season? I think not. And you didn't see me fall once, liar.

Wait, you might have seen me straightline out of an avie with a heavy camera in my backpack....no wait, your shot was done, no need to worry about the cameraman. You missed that one. I mean, before I went the slope only slid with a tap of your ski pole, then released on the other two skiers when they skied. No need to worry about lil' ol slippy. He'll be fine by himself, I'll just ski to the next line, fix my helmet hair, and wait for him. As long as he got the shot, right?
