check your individual preferred resort as there may be additional restrictions but the biggest difference between the base pass and full pass are the blackout dates. If you are planning to ski any of the holiday weekends than it make senese to upgrade, otherwise most people just go for the base pass.

If you didn't get an Ikon this year there is also a big difference in the resorts and when you can start spring skiing at each of them this season on it.

IMO, the most cost effective way to ski with an Ikon Pass is to buy the pass in the Spring, every second year. The downside is that every second year you have to wait until the pass goes on sale in the Spring to ski the Ikon resorts.

420 is the answer. Seriously. It is $420 difference. That and you can ski JH and asspen and a few other blackouts.

Seriously, it's less than two days at any of the premier resorts. I can’t tell you how many times I've heard.

Anyone have a voucher, I only have a base pass

We can't go to Aspen, Snowbird or Jackson. One guy in our group, only has a base pass.

Yes, there might be a year where you don't need the full. But you'll regret not having it, every year.

New and returning pass holders, shoot me a PM after Tuesday 11th to join our group sale. It's a little more work this season to get maggots on the snow. But hopefully everyone finds it worth it.

FWIW, I've never had a full pass but always think about it. Would love to get back to Jackson and Alta and check out Snowbasin and Highlands. But then again never have time to travel.

Can you remind us what the benefits are for a returning pass holder to go in on the group sale?

At the very least more people in the group = more free passes to give to deserving mags.
I was one a few years ago when recovering from a ruptured Achilles and associated medical bills.

Thanks Ottime!

Costs a minute and contributes to handing out free passes.
Thanks for herding the cats.

I went to base not just for the $420 but for the higher costs associated with skiing at jh and Aspen (highlands). They have some of the best skiing but lodging etc is significantly more there.
Snowbird is on base. Is that changing? Edit: no still 5 days at snowbird for 25/26

And I don't want to ski blackout dates anyway

Blackout dates have become some of the best mid season weekend dates to ski, actually

i think its marginally better crowdwise on blackout days but the real crowded days are always those days around the blackouts. like the week before christmas is always a gong show because schools are out. then the actual holidays on the monday of mlk and presidents days that are not blacked out are nuts as well. this year december 26 isn't a blackout so that's sure to be crazy busy as well. i think the reason people think blackout days are less crowded is only because of the types of crowds. the locals are blacked out so you won't see traffic in the expert terrain but all the vacationers are bumping into each other everywhere else. that said if you do go base pass you can always travel to non-blackout resorts like solitude, copper, winter park but i can't imagine how crazy those mountains must get.

Yeah, Copper is always a shitshow on weekends now. I drove by Saturday and the traffic backed up to frisco. Fuck that shit.

Hope the same doesnt happen to the Basin now but time will tell.

It’s the fucking parking situation that does that. Copper cannot figure out how to park their HUGE lots efficiently and it spills onto I[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]. I cannot believe it’s such brain damage.

Once you’re on mountain, in the real terrain, it’s fairly quiet.

The Full Ikon is a godsend for storm chasers.
You never know where it's going to be good, especially early season.

Aspen got slammed early season and was significantly better than anywhere else mid December.
Rates are relatively cheap in town then and Glenwood can be <$100.
Highlands opener is always a good bet, because the other three mountains all open additional terrain.

Personally, I would never book a ski trip way in advance. Just go wherever it's going off. Ikon works pretty good for that.

base is 5 days at snowbird, no alta. full pass is 7 days alta/bird. i have skied at both places and alta gets so much love but I have had better days at snowbird. less traversing and i have had some good times at mineral basin. i found a full unopened beer in the snow once.
as for blackout dates, the price difference is too much for my personal situation/budget. I have a pass at my home mountain and ski/work there on the high holidays. or tour. good to hear it's not overrun.
I am on the fence about ikon at all... it's not just the pass but the additional $ for travel/beers but I know I'll probably just get it anyways.
