Also the number of ambulances I've seen at the slopes, despite very few skiers.

Saw a CHP to lifeflight transfer at donner summit from afar this evening, figured it was something bad.

"200' fall" strangely specific but still lacking in actual info.

Uncrowded and fun at KW this afternoon. Groomers were plenty fast and plenty grippy even at last chair. Off piste north facing was a bit mixed but plenty of smooth edge able snow. Thunder Saddle was the best snow of the day. Only one heli came into the valley and we had a fly by overhead with one of those old four propeller planes. Looks a bit cooler tomorrow.

Twas pleasantly sparse at The Star today.
The “good” snow was also sparse and not in a pleasant way.
That said, I drug my crew around the mountain and we scored empty runs of variable conditions.
Lapped this one Frankenstein combo that started out with a chalky, fast groomer (which also had decent side moguls), to a manky paste laden cut-across to a slicked out obstacle (bushes, rocks, etc) slalom ending with a crusty berm bank into an exit jump. Made my crew lap that a few times and got no complaints; it was like snow covered pinball wizardry.
In fact, the only time my crew complained was when I made them “hike” (i.e sidestep) off-piste to do a snow check and then they had to trudge back to the groomer.

    Pretty fun day.
Learning to love and own my 74 millis…

Yesterday at KW was an unexpected big day, and the snow was really fun, once you got used to it. All the Way was edgeable and offered mostly windbuff down through waterfall. Groomers were top notch.

In other news: ISO used women's boots in a 25.5 for my daughter. My requirements: comfortable for her accessory navicular bone and long, skinny feet. Her requirements: "beautiful like my existing boots" (which means white with turquoise accents).

Hint: my requirements matter - hers don't.

you clearly don't understand women. They don't wear stiletto heels because they're comfortable.

    Groomers were ripping this weekend.

Very few offpiste areas open. Heard from patrol yesterday that a guy fell on Granite Chief with mandatory heli evac. Some scary ice stuff all over Enchanted Forest, Cornice Bowl, GS Bowl BUT found amazing snow (all things considered) under Resort Chair, under Oly Lady (after a long traverse from GS Bowl). Lower access gate was closed to Red Dog glades etc but ironically that area probably has the most forgivable snow on the hill...makes no sense to me as Enchanted Forest was horrifying in my eyes.

Today was real good. Groomers were slightly soft and choppy at Alpine, which I enjoyed. Off piste was great in some spots, not so great in other spots.

I kind of wish OV would open headwall face, I thought those bumps on the north side were skiing pretty well last weekend. It was pretty icy getting over to them if you didn’t stay high I guess.

Two weekends in a row with heli-evac at the Wood. It's sketchy out there.

Also means chair 10 was fully country club conditions. I think I saw fewer than 10 people up there all day other than us, and the seam of smoothness was in full effect.

Tahoe '24/'25 - This Thread Shall Not Be Privatized!!

I believe kirkwood uses the heli more than north Tahoe resorts because of the distance to the hospital. Maybe I’m wrong.

mogul, sports hub in truckee often has a lot of kids boots in their used gear loft.

I got on 10 for 4 of my 5 last runs, after the rest of my crew went in. Those four runs were insanely good. My favorite being the lookers right gully on the face. All The Way I think goes into Wagon Wheel but this one funnels into Waterfall. Anyway, so much fun and finished on Buckboard making 16 minute laps which means 4 minutes on the down. But it was just that fast and smooth.

Wish I had spent more of my day over there but had fun touring around with my kid and wife. Two Man to One Man was the other highlight. Fireball and lower Cham also the sweetness. Monte's in the morning. Backside groomers were pretty buffed and actually found some fun tree skiing on the Devil's Draw side.

Tomorrow looks windy. Gonna knock out 10k on the 6 groomers and bail. Maybe get a sunset surf in instead. Overall, I thought the resort skied really well this weekend.

Looking for recommendations on places for good eats and brews in Tahoe City, dive bars included if those exist there.

Fair warning, the bottom is getting closer.

Took some speed laps friday, laid a deep carve on Gold Coast and found the bottom with a fully flexed ski. The inside toed out and into my shin to the bone. Felt some wetness by the time I skied by gold coast lodge and then realized I better get it sewn up. Clinic at the bottom is awesome, in and out in less than an hour.

For the lack of snow, the groomers have been pretty fun with the right gear.
    live the life.

    I actually scored powder today.
    Seriously.
They opened some terrain at The Star yesterday that hadn’t been skied all season and due to lack of skier/rider compression and the aspect, it was soft and fluffy.
My crew of kiddos were ecstatic after skiing character building boilerplate all day Saturday.
I wasn’t digging my 74 millis as much today, though.

A lot of skinny ski action this week, but the groomers have been super fun. Getting myself settled in to keep skiing sub 100's since the weather isn't looking to change in the near future.

Evo still has K2 Disruption MTI's and 78Ti's for $299 mounted with 12 DIN Markers. That's my PSA for the day.

It's cheap GS race ski time.

    ... midweek, anyway.

Crazy how uncrowded Kwood has been on the holidays & Saturdays. Ski on to the chair, rip some GS turns or head onto the chalky lines that somehow remain, rinse & repeat. I’d rather be bc skiing but can’t really complain I guess.

I need new backcountry boots. Any recommendations for a shop in or near South Lake with decent selection and fit advice?

I have some Rossi Hero's. Just need to track down some bindings and send it. Maybe a trip to Start Haus is in order.

It was pretty cold out there today, snow hadn't really softened off piste by 2pm.

Yesterday’s pow stash was a little thicker today at The Star.
But I still managed to find some pockets of fluff on runs like “Aba-Zaba” and even scored some clean, untracked off of “Cypress Hill,” which required a wee bit of side-stepping, but was worth it.
    Elsewhere? Lottsa Tahoe Boilerplate.
I chose to ski 102’s today and regretted the choice about 50% of the day…
