The lack of plowing/sanding fucking sucks this year. We go up early for our kids' programs and it is just a skating rink, and we then see the plow heading down around 9:15...sometimes. They used to sand early in the morning. I cannot fathom why they stopped.
it's just a guess, but I'd say they are cutting back on plowing/sanding to save money?

As a long time snowbowl skier I used to think this, but ultimately I believe it to just be carelessness/neglect, perhaps occasionally masked by cost savings.
After last night's debacle they were sanding uphill at 9am today, and had already dumped a bunch downhill.
Like most ski hills, and especially here, they know they have a monopoly and a growing population in need of skiing. We keep saying thank you can I have another. At the end of the day you just have to laugh. That said I think constant pressure on the forest service is the only way to possibly force them to improve operations, and that's a reach.

Why do you think they call them “Pats Bumps”?
They ain’t there because of love.
There's two factors here I think. Give is shit is #1. #2 is the fucking POS's that the use to deliver the high quality sand. Near as I can tell the trucks they use can't cover much of the length of road, both in volume and the spread. The spreader was purchased from Amazon I think and only spits out a few pieces of sand at a time and also only has a width of approximately 6 inches. This means they must have to make about 19 trips back in forth to make any notable difference.
The good news is I hear they will be upgrading to this next year, the Gravelicious 3000.

If enough cars crash on it, the broken bits of plastic, metal, and glass will provide traction.
Not if they all go off the side.
On the way home today I was noticing a lot of fresh sand and good traction on the road. Then saw two trucks putting down sand. Then saw someone who had managed to put themselves really far into the ditch.
Nice up top but zero visibilty. Then just gets pretty bad lower down.
