Anyone have tips for how to press the tubular rivets for replacing ankle rivets in a zero G?

How did the plastic hold up to Alpine bindings? I skied mine in castified pivots the other day, and one of the boot heels got a little chewed up. I didn't have any releases, so that was a surprise. Made me think twice about doing that regularly, despite the combo skiing well.

How hard is adding the forward lean mod from Raide? It says you have to drill out rivets, is it easy to fuck something up?

And not related: I'm loving these boots but goddamn, getting them on in the morning is the crux of the day. I literally bulged a disc pulling on them.

Pretty easy to drill out the rivets. Assemble with locktite.

Pull the lower shell apart with your hands when you put them on, liner tongue out laterally, makes it easy.

My local shop (Tahoe Sports Hub) told me they couldn't do the ZGTP rivets because it requires a proprietary rivet press that costs something like $2k. And of course, it's on the shop to buy it (which they didn't). They helped me do a warranty and now I'm in new ZGTPs.

Tecnica knows this is a warranty problem - that's why the 24/25 version has a better ankle rivet situation.

Annoying to have to punch another set of boots, but at least I have a ski mode that functions properly and does not result in any more injuries...

Do you have the boot in walk or ski mode when you do this? I need one more hand.

Counterpoint. Getting the rivets out sucked despite following the directions 100% and being careful as fuck. Took many many many tries. Getting the new piece on was easier, but was also tricky because while the nut can be wrenched, the other side was totally round and wouldn’t stay in place. Worth it, but not “easy.”

I’ve found nothing that makes getting these fuckers on easy. Boot horn, silicone spray, shells under foot heaters, still a bitch. The only thing kind of “easy” is using an overlap liner (intuition plug) already in the boot, as you can really work that fucker open way easier than worrying about tearing the tongue off your GFTs.

Orange tour pro here, 26-26.5, 303bsl, liner replacement time. Intuition fanboi in everything else, did some reading settled on tour wrap in dual density 12mm. First oddly seems too long, my custom footbed moves around with in and it feels stuffed into toe of shell. but when reading it seemed like some people went same size shell? Maybe I should have gone 25 liner instead , also given svelte ness of shell is getting a 12mm wrap in there dream talk? Do I need to go down to 9mm foam ? Or maybe only a tongue intuition is gonna work? The 26/12mm tour wrap I just got today seems to really stretch the plastic wings at the ankle crease of shell.

Intuition email tomorrow, figured id start here.

Maybe this is helpful, maybe not. I am using size 27 tour wraps (the old version, 11mm foam I think?) in my yellow 27/27.5 ZGTP shells. My actual foot length is ~270mm, width ~102mm. Superfeet green foot beds.

Skis and tours well, ROM is slightly restricted vs stock liners, but the tour wraps agree with my shins and feet better than the stock liners. I didn't bake mine.

I shove a 26.5 in the 25.5 shell, the 25.5 liner feels way too short for me

yeah all very strange.. i ended up having to go down to 25 size and the lower volume 9mm instead of 12. too much girth in any length to make it fit (twss) ended up with tongue again because it's what they had in stock, but 9mm TW in the 25/25.5 would have also worked just fine- having said all that, the boots now feel amazing, light years more comfy (and seemingly warmer) than stock liner , excited to use soon.

Not sure if its helpful, but I'm in yellow zero G's 26.5 with a size 8 or 26 MV tour wrap liner. The 'older style' before whatever update they've done. The shells fit my feet pretty well already aside from a big toe punch. The liners have worked well for me in these boots with a good fit. I don't bother with heat molding intuitions, and I just rammed them in there and went skiing. They were tight the first 5 or so days, after skiing a while I don't have any issue with the instep being fully spread open. Maybe the thinner foam would work better for you.

My experience with the Raide mod... it didn't go on as quickly or easily as I had hoped, but its not that bad.
You'll need a soldering iron. I touched the screws from the inside with my finger and held the iron on from the outside until it was so hot I couldn't keep my finger on there. Then took it off and let it cool a bit, and repeated that 3 or so times. I stripped the first one, I thought it was hot enough. It wasn't. It was a massive pain in the ass to extract that screw. Do yourself a favor and make sure they are nice and hot, and have a screwdriver that fits in there properly.

Drilling out the rivets and punching the pins out was the quicker part for me. I followed the instructions and drilled them as much as possible. Then went to town with some vice grips to squeeze the edges of the rivets in. Then I found an allen wrench that fit in there and slowly hammered the pin out with that.

The boots ski better with the mod. I wouldn't say its life changing, but a noticeable difference.

The instructions don’t specifically call for it, but I assume you use red or blue loctite when you reinstall the screws?

I had good success with blow torching a screwdriver and holding the red hot screwdriver tip into the screws, but will second that it takes longer than you think to get those screws hot enough to soften the thread locker.

I used blue loctite. Since I had stripped one and had to go to the hardware store, I replaced all the screws while I was at it. I would certainly use something to make sure they aren't going to come out on a tour.

Stock screws already come with some threadlocker on them (the blue dot). When I tuned mine (and stripped the phillips screws in the process.. damn Tecnica) I put Torx screws instead, and used some red loctite.

BTW, no need of a soldering iron, a good hairdryer is more than enough.

You don't happen to remember the thread pitch and dimensions of the torx screws you used do you? I have to run to the hardware store anyway and I'd like to grab some.

    In fact I do!
They were M4X10 screws, with a conical head with TX20 socket

I just picked up a pair of the yellow ones in 27.5 and the 27 9mm Pro Tour liner fits well. I have a high-ish instep and non chicken legs so I don’t have a ton of room there as is but cannot imagine a MV intuition fitting, especially a wrap. The LV is a little thinner and roomer than the stock liner from my back to back testing. Ran into the same thing with Hawx Ultras - couldn’t get them to even buckle with MV

Think I’m gonna stick with the stock liner for now since it’s hardly used and fits the best but I’d go LV for intuition replacements. That said, every foot is different
