In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...
Was ok. A bit heavier than yesterday morning but a bit better than yesterday afternoon. Untracked run under southern cross about 10 was money ( heavy money). Later in the day stuff that had been skied out (like double diamond) was pretty good despite the ice fog/ freezing rain moving in.
FYI NWAC is currently looking for end of year donations and has a donor match to 50k. If you are like me and don't donate every year this may be a good chance to make your money go a bit further.

Spent a soggy day at Stevens today. As has been the trend of late, the top half of the mountain skied well, albeit a tad heavy but deep. The bottom half of the backside was reminiscent of deep spring mashed potatoes that is just begging to shred the ligaments of an unsuspecting knee. It never rained, but it sure felt like it did. Soaked to the bone after a few hours of skiing. Everything is filling in nicely now, so anxious for some cooler temps and less challenging conditions. Parking never filled up and roads were bare and wet coming home.

Never seen so many yard sales before as today at Baker - the hottest of hot pow. It was practically raining on the entire mountain save for the top 100 feet. Took a few runs and decided I didn't want to risk my knees anymore. Some real trial by fire initiation into PNW skiing for me.
It’s called building character. Should have tried it back in the day on skinny skis!Originally Posted by Jvhowube;[emoji[emoji6[emoji640
Thats the reason I have everything in the quiver from 95 mm to 135 in 5mm increments.
Those snowboarders spent more time laying down in the middle of the runs back then. I saw some snowboarders doing the same thing at Mission this weekend past and it took me right back to Baker. The snowboarders at Baker are the reason for the part of the skiers code that talks about not stopping and laying down in the middle of a run.

The coverage at Mission is better right now than at any time last season. The snow quality the past two days, after the cold temperatures and clear skies arrived, is amazing. Soft faceted snow of varying depth and great grippy, chalky groomers. The groomers are staying nice all day with the colder temps and faceting snow.

Anyone here ever skiied from the summit of Baker in the middle of winter? I've got a trip lined up starting at the end of next week, and I'm brainstorming some options for if the high pressure comes to fruition.
I haven't done it, but I would think it's possible. Snowmobiles can get way up there so you can certainly get close. If you take Easton/Squak. The Roman wall is probably your biggest overhead hazard, avy hazard area....most people aren't up that high in winter...dyor. Getting up pretty high on Easton/Squak with a motor shouldn't be too hard. But I wouldn't say climbing any volcano in midwinter is for the faint of heart.
