I’ve been skiing Doberman narrow last boots for the last decade and absolutely love them. Last year I bought the recon team as it was one of 2 boots on the market with tech fittings but no walk mode (the dalbello didn’t fit me at all). While the recon is certainly wider than a 93 last Doberman I’ve been pretty happy with their performance. I did fit them with a Doberman cork liner, I assume a zip fit with this boot would work very well. They aren’t the extreme performance boot that the Doberman is but they’re acceptable and much warmer. I tried the new boa version on and despite being told they were the same last they felt considerably bigger, might be the liner. I’m very excited about the true low volume boot that is coming out. And after a disastrous experience with CAST modding some Dobermans I really hope that the new LV recon will be a game changer. For a slack country/everyday resort boot that will never do big vert, the lack of a walk mode is highly appealing for someone who likes to ski with high edge angles and fore/aft control. Boots with walk mode always lack the reward support to manipulate a ski on the fore/aft axis unless you’re hoji. If it’s everything it’s made out to be, the new LV recon is the only boot I’d consider paying retail for. It’s easy to find 93 last Dobermans for less than $200usd but it’s nearly impossible to get a tech fitting as CAST has proven to me to be completely unreliable in their conversion. I love the concept of their system but their quality control on boot conversion is beyond garbage as is their customer service. My experience with them is literally the worst experience I’ve ever had with any ski product. Including marker twin cam bindings!

Should mention we also have a full range from 130 - 95 flex without tech inserts so although the team boot is a little niche the rest of the line should really fill a void for people wanting race boot performance in a LV fit without having to deal with all the downsides of a race boot. Weight is around 2100-2200g depending on the model in a 26.5
Good to hear about a narrow boot “without the downsides of race boots” what downsides are you referring to? Ie will it be as easy to put on as your current boots?
Yeah taking them on and off is a big part. There is actually no reason you can’t build a fast fit instep into a high performance boot. Also race boots can be very cold due to liner and boot board restrictions. And also being a solid sole you usually will want to add risers to them to protect the sole which is both costly and often hard to find a shop to do. So those few points alone make them less than ideal for most people but they are also issues which can be easily addressed. Changes can easily be made to improve ease of use with basically zero performance compromise when you are building a boot to perform like a race boot but do not need them to conform to FIS regulation or be used by the 0.1% of people who need them for the worldcup.
That sounds very sensible and promising. Look forward to trying it on
Smitten at thicker heavier DRS style plastic although squeaky.

I was able to fondle a pair of the new Cortex the other day. After being in an undisclosed number of Recon shells, these look and feel so much more stout and powerful. I've been in the Redster CS 130 for the last season and a half and really hoping they match up to the performance.
I’m really looking forward to see these things in person. Hoping somewhere in SLC will have them in stock
How soon until unveiling?
Little off subject. But I can’t believe k2 hasn’t put out a revolve boot with tech fittings. I can see they make one for Karl. Just surprised they haven’t released it for the masses. The instep of raichle boots generally kill’s me but they’re a lower volume boot than the advertised 99 width. Tried on some scarpa quattro pros today, and scarpa continues to design boots for weird feet. I’m not sure who wants a low volume wide toe box, yet short boot. I generally ski a plug Doberman and the quattro didn’t feel at all anatomical. Maybe Italians are actually hobbits
Sadly we can’t modify the tools to offer a tech insert. To do so would mean completely remaking the tooling which just is not finically viable at this time with how few three piece boots are sold globally.
But I have some ideas about this so we may have something in the future.
Have a couple days in the Cortex [emoji637][emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] now, they’re everything I have hoped they would be. I have only had them on while patrolling so I haven’t fully stepped on the gas yet, but they are not even in the same league as the Recon line. I would directly compare them to CS[emoji637][emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]], very similar fit, feel, and flex. Still figuring out the whole Boa thing after being anti-boa for a while. Tom really hit the nail on the head with this line.

^^^ emoji attack ruined the very pertinent info regarding boot comparison. I’m very interested in the cortex as it’s supposed to be low volume and has tech fittings but no walk mode. Great for short steep missions.
