Looking at an AT boot acquisition and just considering these vs Lange Rossi…

They are supposed to be based off the RX, but I found em to be wider. K2 prod manager here says they coming up w true LV boot this year.
I normally ski in a Doberman plug boot. I have a pair of recon 140s. Had to use a different liner and they’re certainly wider than a Doberman, but the fit is good enough. I actually skied them a lot this spring after spending a week in flip flops in mexico and came to really like them. I bought them specifically because they have pins but no walk mode.
Yeah I've shattered 2 pairs of recons 130 and 140s . Still my favorite boot I have over 500 days on a pair of 130s. They're on their second pair of liners . Comfort is king. The mindbender 130s are too soft for me out of the box so I put recon liners in them ( stiff plastic tongue on liner) still too soft for me for a resort boot and I rarely tour so they only get a few laps early season and late. Buy k2 boots through a shop not online or direct from k2 because if the shells break the shop will go to bat for you sending an email to k2s warranty dept will try your patience

Subscribing.
I’m eyeing the 2023 Recon Team, which had four buckles. Or the 2024 or 25 Recon 140 BOA specifically because of pins and no walk mode.
Coming from a Lange RS130. I read months ago that the K2 last is based on the RS. Any truth to that?
Yeah the recon last is currently based on some of our favorite features from the Lange Rx with some of our own adaptions added. But if you fit well into a Lange rx recon/anthem/mindbender should work well.
Any questions on the different models let me know.
I tried on the mindbender boa and it had way more volume than the recon team. Does the new recon team have the same last or is it narrower?
Solid info from everyone here much appreciated. Leaning toward the 25’ Recon 140 with just the front pins. Noticed K2 chose a wrap liner with a BOA cable vs tongue liner with BOA like on the 24’ Mind bender 130. Is there a touch of performance compromise with the wrap liner? What considerations came into play vs a tongue with BOA on the Recon?

The internal volume of the Recon Team and Mindbender BOA is identical in all but the forefoot width. The recon team used a slightly thicker shell wall to achieve the 98mm fit but all our testers have said they are able to get the BOA shell to actually fit snugger than the team shell which is why we discontinued using it.
We do however have a true LV shell coming in limited sizes in Jan 2025.
Main reason for changing to the Wrap from the tongue liner was we had some complaints that the tongue liner was hard to put on. The Wrap BOA liner is much easier to open which makes to easier to take on and off. The wrap liner also has the benefit of being slightly stiffer so when combined with the 140 shell it really helps those boots flex as they should.
One difference you will find is the Wrap may fell a little bigger out of the box compared to the tongue liners. We use a different thermo molding process which results in the liner feeling more like it is has already bedded in. This means pack out should be minimal but they will feel a little bigger than the tongue equivalents however once the tongue liners bed it they would feel the same. Just something to consider when trying on the boots.
We do have a limited edition Mindbender coming in Nov 24 which still uses the BOA tongue liner.
Happy to help!!
So new boot is boa lower only but we will offer a buckle cuff as well as the new boa cuff option. Gripwalk or alpine and the top men’s and women’s flex will come with both in the box. The unisex team boot will come with gripwalk only but it also has a tech insert in the toe.
Damn that sounds awesome. I’m pretty good on boots right now. But these might be too good to pass on. I hope they sell well and stay in the lineup.
Hawk ultra XTD is my main touring boot right now, along with backland carbon for bigger missions. I like the recon for side country skiing and it has a more traditional alpine boot feel. That said I’d like it even more if it was even lower volume.
