R-class was built on the same platform as the M-Class and GL-Class, not the same platform as the Pacifica.

It’s not really an SUV, or a wagon, or a minivan. Mercedes called it an MPV.

Maybe just call it a minivan*.

Just the body style is similar on the latest Chrysler and I don’t think that’s coincidence. In fact, I think the latest minivans all take queues from the R. The R was sold in Asia through the ‘15 model year.

The sticking point is the sliding doors, or lack thereof.

Previous model, particularly the one that was out at the same time as that R.

If it were a 7 seater, yes. I would argue 7 seats is more van like than whether it has a sliding door.

R-class ride height is Van similar too.

According to Wikipedia it could be a minivan.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minivan

Some minivans/MPVs may use sliding doors, while others offer conventional forward-hinged doors.

However, I don't see the R class mentioned. They talk about the Metris and the V class.

But, the R class is called an MPV, which links back to minivan.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_R-Class

I still prefer my minivans to have sliders.

That compromise would have been more palatable had it come alongside an AMG V8

    We need sliders
Or maybe barn doors on the passenger side

Just think of how much easier and better parking would be if all doors were sliding doors. Scissor and hinged gullwing are also acceptable.

The prices for R[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji639] are stupid. It’s rare but it’s also not that great of a car. I really don’t get the AMG premium.

I wanted an R[emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]] but there’s just too much overhang with the full airmatic.

Was the Honda Element a minivan? No, it was not. And neither is that Merc.

This is not the Upstates thread, there are rules.

Minivan or not, can we at least agree it's the ugliest fucking car in the US?

One of these I would bang, and it's not the Mercedes.

The R-class is definitely the better looking vehicle there.

We're rocking dual sliders these days and I must say the convenience and parking is defintely different level.

Anybody seen or driven the new VW bus? I saw one in blue at a nearby VW dealer as I went past on the freeway. Looked awesome IMHO, and I could be talked into a replacement for my 2013 sienna.

They look awesome, but the battery life really puts them in soccer mom territory.

All of that space in the back just asking to be slept in...but good luck taking that thing on a cold weather road trip. You'll be getting like 125mi on a real life (not 100%-0%) charge.

Vacaville VW, plainly visible from Eastbound 80. I've now see three different ones there, black, grey/white, blue/white. They don't stick around for more than 24 hours. The all black looked stupid, like an oversized scion.

And their range sucks hard, but the Sienna is pretty much just in town soccer/waterpolo/grocery duty. The F150 is the cold weather vehicle.

Saw an article indicating that Toyota is coming out with a bev and plug in hybrid van. Japan first. Current version of the previa.
