Thanks, Possum!
Anyone have a chance to ride any Kastle Paragons? I’m curious how they (any of the three widths) compare to the Commanders and Countaches.

For sure. Give me a few days. Today was day one. I took out the Blade Optic 114 rock specials. Turned out to be a great day of free refills at the summit. I go back to work on skis in 2 weeks. I'll be hammering in as many days as I can between now and then. I'll bring the C102 and E94 and back to back them. I skied the E110 at +1 almost a full season. I love that ski, but I like the poppiness of the Deathwish a bit better. I definitely wouldn't be mad to ski the E110 still if it were available.
Moment has played the game better than almost any ski brand (4FRNT seems to do it well, also). They sell out every year and build high end product produced locally. They'd go out of business selling skis for $300. The skis selling for $300 are mostly Chinese production of mediocre quality (like my $250 Blade Optic 114's that are falling apart).
My C98s made me smile today. And in 7yrs when they still make me smile I won't care that they were a few hundred more than some of the more cost conscious competition. Skiing obviously needs the corporate giants to be accessible and sustainable, and they even make some great products; but I think Moment, ON3P, Praxis, and especially the uber niche small shops are really the soul of the sport and I'm happy to support them when I can.
Anyway, Day 1 with the C98s today.

Well said Going Coastal. Soon it will be opening day at Bridger and I’ll likely bust out my 2013 Bibby’s for low tide. They have 4 mounts, no delams, no broken edges and ski like they did when I got them. I’ve never owned a ski from another major ski manufacturer that had been able to do that. All those skis have become coat racks or part of someone’s ski fence. They make a phenomenal ski imo and make it very easy for me as consumer to support them.

Alright, alright, alright. Didn’t mean to stir the shit so much. I got my first pair of Moments at the end of last season so time will tell if they are worth the premium.
I think a lot of it is marketing and branding, and a lot of it is ski quality. The two aren't mutually exclusive though.
I'll never get tired of the FS posts - "Moment Deathwish 190cm, two mounts, three core shots, skied two years, asking $550" with them getting snapped up in minutes.

Yes, the whole ‘we’re doing things differently, we’re rock and roll’ vibe was probably their ethos from the start. People who were buying their skis back then now have deeper pockets as they’ve grown older.
I absolutely love my Deathwish skis and would love to pick up the DW 104s. That said, it’s tough to follow their stocklisation and hard to justify paying twice the price of other skis.
Still, I understand their higher production costs and craftsmanship, and I’m genuinely happy for their success.
I'm rocking the DW104 w/ CAST and the DWT as main touring rig. Both make great choices for taking out anytime and knowing I'll have a good time.
I haven't been amped on the build quality of the Blade Optics. My top sheet/metal started to delam in less than 5 days. I epoxied them back together and they're doing alright after another 20 or so days. About what you'd expect for $250 skis. I kinda considered them disposable from day one. They sure aren't built like Moments. I think they addressed the issue on the new Optics.
I think you guys have me talked into DWT's. Why mess with a good thing?
I do still want to ski the big Wildcat. I think it could replace those Blade Optics when they go full rock ski.
I can also vouch for Moments’ durability. Edge compression under foot last year on my Wildcats (nailed a hidden rock at apex of turn in blower powder). The shock was enough to crack the sidewall with multiple vertical cracks over the compression, but there was no delam at all. A bit of epoxy to seal the cracks and swapping sides and the skis still perform perfectly.
I had the opposite experience with Volkl Revolts that spontaneously delaminated at the VDS layer under foot. Volkl replaced them under warranty, but that took 4 months…
