I wore these around a bit yesterday in the shop and they felt fkn great

I never really considered a light boot before but Hamish keeps heckling me about it

it feels like it’s going to be dreamy on the way up and in rolling terrain

I hear it skis well but I’m just not totally sure what to expect

Technica boots fit my feet well, and I thought I’d be going the other direction from my ZeroG Tour up to a Cochise for the ski area, but now I’m not so sure….

Light boots ski better than you'd expect, especially in good snow (corn or not too deep) with manageable skis. Definitely worth it in many conditions.

Part of why the Zero G Peak skis so well is that the lower clog extends way up behind the ankle, as a result it has the worst in class walking performance. I’d argue that a lot of heavier boots are more efficient if you have to deal with flat approaches.

Not only flat approaches but skinning up as well.
Went from zero g to hoji free, gained 200g but I'm faster skinning uphill because of the improved rom

Carpet flexing the kilos they are very soft. Excellent rom as you'd expect, but I lost interest with that flex

skimoco says they weigh just 70g less than the Skorpius. So I guess I'd go up in weight class to the Skorpius or Ridge Pro. F1 LT seems like a good candidate right at 1 kg (if it fit my stupid fat feet). When I tried the Dynafit TLTX a couple years ago, I felt like it wasn't really a step up in "walkability" from the Vulcans. Guessing the Tecnica Peak is similar. Then you have the skimo race/training boots, like the DNA, Stratos Hybrid, etc.

Only 70g less than the Skorpius? Bummer. It better have an amazing walk mode to make the loss in skiability worth only a slight weight savings. I am F1 XT curious, but haven't taken the time to try them on. MY coworker who skis more and harder than me loves them, but often uses his Quattro XTs with wider skis and shorter tours.

I am probably just going to get a new zerog tour pro since that boot skis so well and I only walk 2-4k vert on a typical BC ski day. Or maybe the ridge pro in a 29 if they ever show up in in the states since the 28 is short on me.

Good choice, but if you get a lighter boot I bet you will ski more vert. For CO snow (light and dry), you won't lose a ton of performance unless you are actually hucking and skiing really fast.

Just got em, haven't skied them yet but I am optimistic. First off, yes the weight is disappointing especially with the name, but the walk mode is excellent. On par with the best in class, which are the Dalbello Quantum and Fischer Travers IMO, and this boot will probably ski better than those. The design of the boot is very similar to the F1 XT, except the liner is thinner (thinner than average even for light boots) and the fit is better (for me at least). As a big fan of the V1 Skorpius, the Kilo is slightly narrower throughout, most noticeably at the forefoot, but its got more room up front than the F1 series/ Alien RS. The lower buckle is well placed. I'd say its the best lower buckle on any touring boot, and I've tried on all of them except the new Head Crux. While the weight is similar to the Skorpius, they walk noticeably better and will probably ski noticeably worse due to the lack of tongue.

The Skorpius walks way better than the ZGTP and Ridge pro, it also walks better than the Zero G Peak (which has the worst walk mode in its class by far). The Kilo is another level of walk mode beyond all of the other boots mentioned here including the F1 XT. The Kilo sets a new standard for walkability, better than the Alien RS, more on par with the regular Alien but its got a much taller cuff and a forefoot tightening mechanism that actually works.

Better walk than Alien RS! Interesting. I’m tempted by it as the Skorpius has been the best boot for me for several seasons, but weight vs fragility will be interesting to hear about too. Thanks for the notes!

Walking around my house a little more with the Kilos, I am going to try to return them. My current boot quiver is Skorpius and Aliens (regular Alien with a full liner). If neither of those boots existed I would be thrilled with the Kilos, but the reality is the Kilo is closer in weight to the Skorpius but feels like it would be closer in skiability to the Alien. Upon closer inspection, the cuff isn't that tall, noticeably shorter than the Skorpius, probably shorter than the F1 XT/LT as well, it is also pretty soft flexing.

If I still skied in Utah and most of my tours were 2-3 hour sprints uphill to ski down on mostly perfect snow, I would keep them. I live in Alaska now and usually ski worse snow at an all day pace. They really do have an amazing walk mode, side by side with my Aliens, they walk noticeably better (maybe due to the liner) and flex a little softer. They are just a little too tight in the forefoot for me to want to wear all day, and the liner is very very thin which brings concerns about frostbite.

This is compared to the average in the class (light boots). Climbing I think means steep rock/ice climbing, ascent I think is skinning, and walking is booting (on rock?)

Given the difference between the men’s and women’s Kilo scoring, I don’t really trust their reviews any more.

They are on crack if they think the Skorpius has the same downhill rating as the Kilo. If a proper resort boot is a 10, I'd say the Skorpius is maybe a 6 or 7 and the Kilo is a 4 at best (just based on carpet flex, but the cuff is low and soft)

I’m pretty sure the rating is compared to the other boots in the “light” category. Ie, the best light boot is a 10, not a resort boot.
But yes, the fact that the women’s version is rated as an 8 and the men’s as a 10 for skinning and walking, makes me question how these ratings are given.

Looks like a tongueless prototype boot with Z closure that looks kinda cool because it looks like the Z closure buckle is actually about where the Maestrale middle buckle is, potentially actually pulling your foot back into the ankle pocket rather than just squashing your forefoot...
