I'd say, if you want that super smooth monstertruck ride, that is surfy and loose, and arent chasing a poppy "feet in the air" ride, then I'd say go for either the 186 FR110 or 180 R110.

The 180 R110 is going to be similarly stable in a straight line as a 186 FR110 for instance, since the tail is lower and therefore a little more supportive vs the same size FR110. As a refernce, the 180cm R110 is basically the same weight as the Mfree 108 182, has a slightly longer effective edge, but is about 2cm shorter since there is a bit less taper "off the snow".

The R110 is going to feel a little more familiar on edge if you are exclusively coming from cambered skis, and the FR110 is more video-game feeling than that. Honestly, based on all that you have said... I think you want the full blown video game feeling.

Pm me if you are interested, I think I have 1 last pair of 186cm FR110 that will be able to ship in about a month.

Currently looking for a job so I can even get on the mountain. I'll have to see. Was hoping to land one in SLC but it's not looking too hot before the ski season! If I pick something up I'll let you know!

It’s not a point them downhill and smash everything in the way charger.)

It’s also the easiest ski to smear, pivot and generally turn when needed but you can also roll it up on edge and carve if you are on firmer stuff.
Interesting comments here. I think terrain plays an important role. A few years ago it was brought to my attention that I ski faster in tight New England terrain on the reverse and smeary shapes. I think that’s because I can shut it down fast if I need to, jump over or around stuff easily and they accelerate with that frictionless feel out of the turn in softer snow. But to just mach through stuff takes a lot more finesse and balance and I find I really need to have my eyes down the hill and plan my turns in advance.

I’m 5’7’’ and when I was fatter and weighed closer to two bills the 194 Devastator was pretty great at all of the above, but I found they took a ton of energy to ski a few days in a row on and would really wear me out.

I've skied with you before at Squaw, you were on the big Devs. You are totally a 193 FR110 skier.

I'd give my right nut for a 194 R110, just saying.

You know you can "reserve a pair" of 193, right? Clicking that button and making a reservation helps him build a reference for a future press. You're not gonna lose any money. But clicking Reserve helps him gauge next year's pressings.

It also helps him gauge design. You should participate in that. No other ski manufacturer interacts with the buyer like that.

Question: The rocker profil of the FR 110 reminds me of the old metal Katana from Völkl. How similar (or not similar) is the FR 110?

By the way - you have al lot of very interesting Skis in the line up. Will you ship skis to Europe / Germany?

Soft Snow Gymkhana - The Heritage Lab FR110

Re sizing the FR110 discussion above….

My 180 FR110’s are mounted 84cm from tail which is -5.8cm on the 180’s 179.6cm straight pull.

    I’m 5’7”, 170 lbs, short bsl.

    I like mounts from -3.5 to -7.0cm.
I do not get freeride skis with -10 to 11cm mounts. I’ve tried many times. I do have Head SuperShape e-Titans for groomer days mounted at -11cm which do make sense to me.

Anyways, if I had to pick my favorite freeride skis and lengths that I’ve kept in the quiver the last few years that I really like and make sense to me are the 184 4FRNT Ravens/Hojis/Rens, and skis like the 180 Season Aero (179cm straight pull).

But then I got on the FR110…

Can’t say enough how “good” the 180 FR110 feels on my feet. It’s like the skis become an extension of my legs. Power but with instant maneuverability? “Video game feeling” is an appropriate description. You won’t ski like a regular human. You’re in the game.

IMO the FR110 is really a heavier, stiffer, faster, quicker, slarvier, better Hoji?

Rocker profile of FL105, BC105, FR110 and OG Metal Katana.

The FR has way more rocker and is a totally different ski. I haven't seen or tried a R110, but think the rocker profile will be closer (but still a totally different ski). I have a R105 on order and from what arild has posted about that I think will be the most similar.

Snowcountry. They are actually orange. Camera changes the color a bit.

Like SkiJitsu said, they are different skis. FR110 has a lot more rocker and a more progressive mount position. That being said, I was impressed with the FR110s precision on soft groomers after skiing them back to back with Katana 108s.

I haven't skied R110s, but after reading all the info on them I think they would be a good replacement for Katana 112s.

Thanks! They indeed do not look similar at all. Now I really wonder how playful the FR110 is.

Marshal was kind enough to ship my FR110s to Switzerland last year. Top notch customer service.

In another HL thread they just dropped the FL116 and that looks a lot closer to the OG Katana (width, flat camber, long side cut, more traditional mount). It looks a bit more pow oriented at 4mm wider and more rocker tip and tail but seems to be the closest out of all the skis.

Back on the topic of weight, I'm trying to decide between a 180 or 186 for reserving/once they're back in stock. Skis I have experience with: 184 wildcat 108 which I wish was a bit more stable, I think the weight/bamboo will fix this for either. 184 Raven, I like in the backcountry snow but when I bring to resort for sidecountry feels like it requires a ton of work and makes my feet sore, likely more binding/weight but makes me think I may want a longer ski for reverse camber. 184 BG ASYM I like these alot but they do feel a bit long sometimes. Really not sure if the 180 will feel too short of edge or will be fine once I figure out how to ski them or if the 186 while being my longest ski will feel shorter due to the shorter effective edge.

    Should add I'm 5'10" 150.

    Did you post your height/weight?

The FR skis pretty short and the swing weight is much lower than the listed weight would suggest. It’s also a pretty forgiving ski. I wouldn’t shy away from moving up.

If you think the 184 BG feels long you’ll be happy on the 180

I'm 5'10" 150# and am on the 186 R110 (beta); which seem just right to me.
The FR will ski shorter than the R.

So the main thing is the tail doesn't have much kick to it, so the ski is a little more sensitive to mount position vs the production ski.

The Beta will mount -8 to -8.75 really nicely, where the Beta is going to be awesome between -6.5 to about -8. I'd say for folks looking to replace the OG Corvus in particular, the Beta is a great call.
