Where’s Alpinezone Greg when we need him, to talk about the big powder days at Killington and the feisty Jersey chicas?

I hear the uphill trail is done. but now that you mention the parking thing I feel like they still haven’t really said exactly how this will all work. or maybe they did and I just don’t remember.

I'll answer my own question: https://www.parkabasin.com/

Probably won't be many no-shows or parking without a res giving the high fees:
1st offense: $100, $50 if you pay within 10 days of the violation
2nd+ offense: $200, $100 if you pay within 10 days of the violation

Looks like they removed the option to just show up in the afternoon for free without a reservation too

Yep, if you have a parking pass and no show or do not cancel before 9am, those fees apply according to the FAQ. Cut-off to arrive is 1pm. After 1pm they consider you a no show.

Did anyone figure out what the Beach parking option is?

I have the pass which only allows GA, but I’m assuming a beach rez is separate?

those are the reserved beach spots I assume which you have to pay more for. quite a lot more.

man this is all still kinda fucked, ha. I am sure it will be fine as many other ski areas are currently doing this but as more details have dropped I am reminded how I don't like it.

I assumed, but are they doing beach reservations through this thing now? That’s what I’m wondering.

I know beach spots go on sale 11/1 also

Yeah, for an awhile (maybe all season?) it will be a shitshow until word gets around to everyone who doesn’t follow this shit.
I still am curious how they’re going to check vehicles and not cause huge backups on Rte 6?

I bought the parking “pass”. I go most sundays. I could just take the bus pretty easily too. I hope it is a total clusterfuck. Maybe some heads will roll for this bullshit.

Where is the public transport lot going to be?

That’s my question, Frisco is not that big and that’s the biggest I know of. Maybe they turn one of the new decks in Silverthorne?

I don’t know. Brainard Lakes up in IPW has had timed entry passes for 4 years now and they’re still turning away a shit ton of people every time I go up there. And they’ve got signs on the way up explaining that. Abasin can’t exactly put up billboards on 6 directing folks to public transportation if they don’t have a rez.

    The front range.
Your rental condo or your home in Summit County.
Get on the bus. The people who run the resorts and the elected officials could care less about your 1.5 hour bus ride from breckenridge to the basin. Or your drive from littleton to the park and ride at C470 and I70 and your bus ride up the hill which would take three hours.
The elected officials all have nice homes in good locations, they don't give a shit.
The resorts sole purpose is to create profit.

If the Basin is to build a parking garage, they will want to cash flow the place and pay it off in 5 - 10 years or less, so you'll end up paying at least $50.00 for the convivence to park at the resort. High holidays will be close to $100.00.

This is the future of skiing and resort amenities.

Breckenridge in 20 years is a going to be a disgusting hell hole of condos and homes from Tiger Rd to the gondola. It's approved and shovel ready. It's going to wipe out all the parking. The people elected to run the government in summit county all think you should be riding your e bike, taking the bus, and walking. They have taken zero consideration into parking and that 92% of the visitors arrive by car. Keystone is doing everything possible to squash any and all A Basin parking in their lots.
The skier/rider is just a credit card swipe.

What are those things you put on your boots to protect the soles that all the gappers wear? Might just get used to that for my 20 min walk to the bus stop. They need a big locker facility. I want a seasonal locker. Shit! I need a backpack full of beer. Im gonna be that guy skiing inbounds with a backpack!

Fuck all that. I think I will just drive my gas guzzler up there solo and park in the lower lot. Leave the heater running. And have a cooler of beers and a grill for meat snacks.

I think this is all a plot to make people stop byob and spend money in the Aframe. I will not assimilate! Lot lizzard 4 life!

In case anyone wonders what my train of thought is… i also have a mtn collective pass and am actively seeking out new ski areas that will accept my personal brand of BS.

All that extra horseshit will turn off the casual skier and rider eventually.

The masses are not going to drive to a park and ride at C470, take all of their shit out of their SUV, walk over to a bus, load everything on, sit for 1-2 hours in traffic, unload and get on the slopes and then do it in reverse afterwards. Just not going to happen.

I didn’t buy the parking pass—time will tell if I regret it or not. Either way, I’ll keep skiing abasin because I love it, but paying for parking will always suck.

Its too busy, then need to limit skiers

But not me, I'm a G. Reservations cramp my style.

If it was anything like reservations during COVID, it will work out just fine for those willing to play the game. The reservations will book up instantly then the cancelations will flow back into the system.

As mentioned, there is no long term plan. The municipalities are just chasing assessed value to generate revenue to justify their own existence and the ski areas are operating a business.

Absolutely nobody has a vested interest in making the busy times busier. So I'm pouring one our to the 9-5ers and families that feel they have to ski weekends and holidays. Because your life will continue to get harder.

Some may fake like they care about the front range day skier. Many will rage. But you are replaceable, just like me.

So for now, we have mid week. But not first thing on a pow day. And Spring. And kinda sorta Sunday afternoon. And for many, there are just enough good time to keep us holding on. And we get the vacations on the mega pass.

But you know what Jackson, Tahoe, BCC/LCC, Big Sky and so on are like? Same fucking junk show.

So pile up your fun tickets. Buy a snowmobile. Ski the BC. Embrace XC. Work more so you can pay for more vacations.

We live in a busy place and someone else will always have for time and money than you do. Try not to tie your happiness to weekend lift served.
