    Help basinbeater choose a car

I dunno. My kid goes off to college tomorrow so I’ll be driving the E46 wagon around and stashing my 128i in the garage most days.

Drive a slow car fast. It’s more fun!

Or, say fuck it and get an E38 (740i short sport)

    Something like this: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/2...-24dedb67d7f5/

Yeah, those e38 are sharp looking. The short sport is the preferred one. Every now and then a manual one (swapped) pops up.

If you end up expanding your search to non-manual options, the Yamaha V8 in the '08-'16 Volvo S80s gets great marks from owners.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

There was a mint condition 03 I think A8l that had been manual swapped on local FB, it looked really clean and straight. Looking for it now it may have gotten snatched up. That would have been a contender.
The D2 platform is so nice if you like a big car. I’ve had a few of the s8’s and an A8l that’s one serious road killer. More room than you could ask for in the cabin and trunk , and bam once your kids have started driving you’re passed out in the back being chauffeured around in style. The belt driven Audi 4.2 is the Teutonic equivalent of the Chevy 350 beat it like a drum and it wants more!

The 5.2L V10 in the S8 ain't bad either. Shockingly reliable engine from what I've heard. Absolute highway beast. At highway speeds, it's JUST getting going.

The D2 and really the D3 gen A8s are some of the most handsome sleds ever made.

That V10 S8 was always something I wanted to get my hands on.

This but in the wagon. You drop your kid off in this luxury tanker and once he’s of appropriate age, he’ll be drowning in so much snizz he will be shittin clits.

Buddy had an S6 with that V10 in it. We drove it to Jackson from Steamboat once with fresh, brand-new snow tires on it. That was a fun, quick drive.

Niiiice. That S6+V10 package was such an insane combo. I know the newer turbo 6's are posting higher HP ratings and might even be quicker but there was something really special about that V10. Just effortless, linear, endless power.

It sounded really good, too. We flogged that fucker on the way to JH. I sometimes wonder how the folks we passed on 191 doing 100mph thought of us.

Hey basin beater - how about a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder? Nobody here is really looking for one so they're kind of under the radar.

The current Cannonball Run record holder is an Audi S6. The car drove across the country in what I assume was a perfectly legal 25 hours and 39 minutes.

Found one!!! Only $7K. Seems like quite a fair price for one in pretty decent shape and seller is likely more legit than your average FBM/CL seller, at least per the guy who responded to the thread. I'd be tempted if I didn't already have my C30.

No.... But the little bimmer has left the house.
Driving the land cruiser right now. She a thirsty gal. I need a car.

Drove an e39 m5 the other day. Almost bit, but something seemed off. Seemed like it had been run hard, and some time and money had been spent to get it ship shape, but more was needed.

    Thinking e39 540i or a e90 328xi sedan. Manual transmission is a must.

I did stumble across this... And will be watching.

I have a friend that recently sold his 328 AWD 6spd diesel wagon. That thing was fkn hot and rolled 38+ mpg. You want a wagon not a sedan. Well, I want a wagon because I'm allergic to sedans so you should too.

So I pulled the trigger, unless something unforeseen happens, I'll be back in my happy V8 rwd manual midsize sedan space.

My son and I fly out to Chicago Saturday morning to pick up a 2000 540i 6 speed manual and we'll drive it back to Salt lake.

The car is owned by an older guy who has had it for 10 years and put 50k on it, and bought it from a bmwcca guy who also put a out 50k on it.

So it has 100k miles on it, it spends a good chunk of it's time in a clean garage with a car cover on and a battery tender. He has extensive records going back to like 03.
