Huh, seller taking a bit of a loss on a 3 year old car so far, but an hour to go.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Right? Holy shit, if I knew RS6Avants would be going for around $80k these days, I would have held off buying my Allroad when I did.

Great color on that thing too.

I am looking for some advice. I can buy a 2004 Volvo V70 with 184,000 miles on it for cheap. It need a new rear axel and was estimated at $4000. Is it worth it? What are the other problems that could pop up? Should I just pass and save my money? It is fun to drive but I am worried it won't be fun for long and just become a money print. Thanks for any advice.

V70R 6MT? Absolutely worth it (even if it will be a money pit, and it WILL be one), but if it's a standard V70 then meh. Better be a great price AND you should be willing to wrench yourself. High mileage Volvos have worked for me because I DIY most everything. That makes the math pencil out. Would be way worse if I had to rely on a spendy Euro mechanic for everything. All in all though, they really are great cars but there's no denying they're getting up there in age/mileage. Getting to the point that plastics will break, seals will go bad, etc. It's ok. It's understandable for the age. Just be fully aware.

that car is worth 3200 and that would be without having to fix the rear axel.

Hold up. I just caught the fact he was quoted $4000 for a new rear axle. RIIIIIIIIIP off! A new rear axle should be a few hundred bucks and an afternoon and a couple beers worth of dicking around with it.

I typically spend about $2k a year on maintenance for my V70R with 227k miles on it. Not cheap, but such a great wagon. Best Volvo of the 4 we have owned over the years. A car with high miles and needing $4k in repairs is a hard pass for me.

And yours is an R! That's what makes it worth it IMO. For a typical V70, would probably be a hard pass for me too. People want way too much for the basic (and high mileage) stuff these days.

That's hilarious that you bought that wagon from Jackson. I've driven past that thing 1,000 times. Always admired it for the unique patina and general straightness.

I'm sure Babybear knows it and may know the prior owner as well.

    Wagon Stoke

Finally got around to installing the stealth hitch… got tired of busting out the roof rack or driving the wife’s car for every ride. I have to admit it was pretty intimidating once I realized just how far I’d have to disassemble the car to get it done. Ended up being not a huge deal.]

Easier with wheels off, so I took the opportunity to slap some red caliper paint on there while I was at it for gravitylover (editops, Riser…). Xoxo. From my initial calculations the red calipers add approx 75hp.

And blacked out the badges…. I’ve about run out of dumb shit to do with it that’s within the bounds of my questionable taste until I’m ready to chip it.

I'm all for painted calipers it's Riser that gets all weird when he sees them. You need to post a pic or three.

Wow Mustonen, that looks like quite the job!

And I like the red calipers. You’re going to love those HP/torque gains!

Awesome allroad Mustonen, dream family car for me, but out of my price range currently. Had do settle for an allroad wannabe for half the price. Which engine does yours have?

Dedicated winter tire recs - who’s running them?

I’m gonna make the jump from all seasons to winter/summer wheelsets. Winter destinations will have peculiar names like Gore, Smuggs, Magic, Jay (mind if I do a J?) with lots of interstate before getting to the backroads. I see blizzaks and x-ice mentioned but wondering if there are others?
