What Is It With Royal Blue Suits?

They are everywhere and look like shit. And don’t get me started on the tie sticking out from beneath the button.

I got a nice sort of light blue jacket for a wedding last week. It's the first blue jacket I've had in about 40 years that's not navy. I'm so fashionable...

A jacket…that’s a sports coat. Whole different deal. Be colorful to your hearts content

I havent been paid to wear a suite in > 30 yrs but a nice royal blue jacket is better than looking like an evangelist preacher in a light colored suit

my go to dress-up here up narth is an open Hawaiin shirt/ black T-shirt/ black Carharts ,

I found better loud Hawaiian shirts in Mexico than in Hawaii

I wore a blue suit for work once. Powder blue polyester leisure suit I complimented with a Nik Nik shirt.

Our kid and his groomsmen wear royal blue suits at his wedding. Can't say I like the look. I recently got my first black suit--figured I'll be going to a lot of funerals. At least mine.

I love the royal blue suit. Well, i love the color thats like halfway between royal blue and Navy blue. If i had my druthers id have a suit in that color blue, and Dark Green/Forest Green suit too.

Yall are fucking boring if the only color suite youd ever wear is Black/Gray/Navy. Live a little, get some style and standout a little bit if youre wearing the suite to a social function. Have some fun with it.

The only suit I own. Looks good formal with a black tie and black belt/shoes. Looks good more casual with a fun tie and brown belt/shoes. The coat looks good with khakis or jeans.

It's just a trend. Someday we'll all get a chuckle looking at old pictures of these times just like we do with the plaid suits with big collared shirts of the seventies. We'll say, "Look at that fucking blue suit! OMG, what are those tennis shoe looking things on his feet!?"

I wore a suit to get dirty fixing HW , the customers would always ask why ?

I would go into the mens dept and say " gimme something that looks good with dirt on it " so the best thing to wear were the dark cheap tweed jackets with dark pants dark tie, at about 3 yrs the inner pockets would wear out from carrying small parts and at 5 yrs the ends were wearing off the sleeves

At some point the directive came down that in order to fit in with the new business environment we no longer needed to wear suits so on monday everyone came to work wearing a suit

after 17 yrs the suit was the uniform, this changed slowly cuz of old habits but also some guys just owned suits or jeans period so dressing in the new business casual means buying clothes that cost as much or more than the cheap suits we already owned SO just keep wearing out them cheap suits

i didn't really care what i wore and the reason why is that they keep paying me

The continuous reruns of Hawaii Five-0 on Pluto TV, the 1970 series not the newer, 2010s remake with the very hot chick costars, is proof of the old advice men's suits should always be dark grey or very dark blue.

The suits those guys wore look hideous, clownish.

I often have to wear suits in Japan. My kids' graduation ceremonies, interviews, all formal bullshit. I've recently decided that I'm only wearing suits to celebrations and funerals. Aside from those two extraneous events... I'm gonna go ahead and be myself.

It took me approaching 50 to say it, but those are the rules. If you're not dead, or getting married, I'm not dressing up in my best suit for you.

If you want a job interview, want me to host a conference, want me to placate on the front lawn... I'll just remind you that I'm interviewing you in this meeting. And I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

I'm down to two suits now. One for celebrations and one for funerals.

And hell no... none of my suits are any royal blue. It's matte black for funerals or black/grey pin-stripe for formal.

Any blue or brown suit is the shell for "I don't know how I want to dress in real life, so I'll just pretend to be caring like I want to be here expressing myself as other than myself."

I will, however, admit that when I do host medical conferences and have surgeons from around the world presenting, and they're showing up in dope-ass suits, that I do appreciate it.

So, there's that. There is a place for dope ass suits. But none of them are Royal Blue... And all of them are Look At Me... and not because the camera is here, but because the science I'm presenting is mind-blowing and it deserves a rad suit.

I've got a black button down shirt for funerals. That's as good as it gets.

The official outfit of surgeons out of the OR. When I was a vacular surgery fellow our department went to a surgery conference in SF and were invited to a "casual" party at the apt of the previous year's fellow. I wore a flannel shirt and jeans. The other 17 men at the party all wore blue blazers. Every last one of them.

Went to another surgery conference in NOLA. Walking down Bourbon St one night we saw a three deep crowd of men in blue blazers staring through the door at the stark naked stripper on the stage inside. Some of them still had their name tags from the conference.

To me blue blazer=uptight. And not outtasight.
