Derrick White today: 6 Minutes 0pts. And Tatum is going through a shooting slump. His perimeter shot is off. He's air-balled quite a few wide open looks in the games he has played in.

    USA just STACKING medals again!

Syd delivered, Bol crumbled. She (and maybe Bol) should be splitting 47-low on her anchor leg this weekend. I wish we could see Syd race more.

Holloway! Roberts! Cockerel! Tara-Woodhall! Heptathlon was great, Hiltz and Elle St Pierre were solid in the w1500

Back in the early eighties Liggett was commentating at an u16 criterium I was racing in that was on the undercard of a pro race.

I got dropped off a breakaway and as I was freewheeling along for the pack to catch me I took my hands off the bars.

Liggett yelled at me to, "put your hands back on your handlebars, this isn't a bloody stunt show!"

But we should see more White, Tatum and AD in the finals. Those are the guys that contest shots all over the floor.
    There’s a reasonable answer. Thanks.

I didn’t like Serbia how was involving Embiid and Curry in PnR early, but then the US did more pre-switching and late help on Jokic and that helped. Embiid was scoring well but defensive rebounding for shit. Need more mobile AD against Wemby.

IMO, with Wemby able to sit in the key on D, the US will need Booker’s 3-pt shooting more than Tatum’s D on French wings. Guess we’ll see…

Steph said post game the big issue was the guys were all deferring to each other on shots. Once they started playing ball and just taking their open shots the game turned around. Plus Serbia is really fukin good.

This is why I love the internet. 54-46 give a well thought out post and the response is screaming that Tatum isn’t Scalabrine. ?

Basketball is not my sport of choice, but I know enough to guess that Steve Kerr has a better idea of what he is doing than the local dentists here.

Perspective and changed expectations. Dude said he was happy and proud to get bronze. I don’t like his meta game, but appreciate the effort.

The track events have been fire this Olympics!

That hoops game was so exciting I rewound it and watched the entire 4th quarter again, so I could actually enjoy it and not be screaming at the screen as Serbia grabbed offensive rebound after offensive rebound...

Curry mugging and celebrating BEFORE he actually hit the free throws to ice it (US was only up two!?) was a little over the top, although he did personally will the US to the W with the huge late 3 to take the lead and the steal/coast-to-coast layup near the end....

Tatum is a significantly better 3 point shooter than Booker. More attempts, higher percentage.

    Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

Did you even read the reasoning - on a game commentary from
    A game almost 2 WEEKS ago ?

So you will sit KD in favor of Tatum and you think that’s gonna change the game?

Keep doubling down on beating the Tatum boner you seem to have. Kerr’s point is everyone is really fuckin good, not that he made a mistake by not giving Tatum more minutes

I checked because you got me curious - and last season:

    Tatum 37.6% on 8 3PA/game from NBA line and 47% from 2

    Booker - 36.4% on 6 3PA/game from NBA line and 49% from 2.

Maybe you’re dead on balls accurate?

The difference may or may not be significant for FIBA games. Maybe shorter FIBA 3P line more significant than NBA stats?

    More nuanced thought:

Maybe Booker better without the ball since LBJ is ball dominant for Team USA and Tatum is also ball dominant in his Celtics role? (Someone above - not ISBD - was saying it’s a team game.)

Too small of a sample size in a couple games to really know for sure.

I get your point though and I’m sure that Celtics fans and Tatum fans would love to see Tatum play more. He’s an excellent player. That’s totally fair. Bummer when good dudes don’t get their run.

    Career percentages are more stark:

    Tatum .375

    Booker .357

I would be curious to see their percentages on catch and shoot 3's. But Tatum shot 3's at an even higher rate when he was younger and didn't handle the ball as much, so I expect we'd see a similar disparity.

Tatum had essentially the same amount of assists this year as White. He was the number one rebounder and pts scorer on the team. The guy is a well rounded player. I don't understand not playing him at all.

I like Tatum and I hope he has a big game vs. France in the gold medal game. But he is not playing well at the moment. His shot is off. He's shooting under 40% from the field and 0% 3PT in the Olympics. He's missing wide open 3s. Booker by comparison is scoring on 56% of his shots and 61% 3PT. Normally a coach lets a player of Tatum's caliber play through a slump, just not in the Olympics.

The sample size is tiny. He also shot lights out in the last Olympics. Maybe he looks like shit in practice. But they way he has been treated is probably not helping. In game one Durant gets all the minutes after zero practices. In recent years Tatum has dominated their head to head matchups, especially in the playoffs. I know would be fucking pissed. So is it about winning? Or is Kerr feeding his buddies? Yet in Tatum's situation you can't complain. I hope it turns him into more of an asshole on the court. His mean streak isn't big enough.

KD was lights out in that game: 8-8 shooting, 6-6 from three in the first half. I don't think any coach would switch out a player with a hot hand like that. Kerr's calculus is probably pretty simple: I'm going to take a lot more heat for losing a gold medal than I am from fans for not playing certain players. Hence the diplomatic press conference "He's a total pro. He's First-Team All-NBA three years in a row. I felt like an idiot not playing him," while focusing on winning gold.

I think this is exactly wrong. Edwards (I forgot all about him! Another damn good defender) and Tatum are better players today than Steph and Durant (yeah, yeah, I know peak Steph and Durant are on a whole other level). Kerr clearly cares more about legacy than current ability. Ok. Fine. Or maybe he is playing "his" guys or the guys he trusts? But benching Tatum is too much. He's the best player on the reigning champs. 3 consecutive years 1st team all NBA. In a few years when they are recruiting players for 2028 guys will be asking, "You gonna bench me?" I promise Kerr won't be coach again.

    Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

    Ok, next.
As we stated up thread, and I’ve said in many other threads, (and as my wife has said at least five times during this Olympics), are all these track athletes supermodels?
Every time there’s a race I fall in love with a new one
