Have not skied the BO 96. I have a Season Aero 96mm in that width. But I’m sure it’s good too.

Yes, since I have the regular blade at 95mm underfoot I am wondering if I should go 96 or 105 given that I will use the Deathwish for soft snow. If I remember, you like the rustler 9 too and I am kinda looking for that type of ski with a bit more backbone in the tip.

If you want more backbone in the tip I’d go Rustler 9…the tips on the Optics are not super stiff.

What width DW do you have? If the 112 DW I’d go Optic 104 for sure.

Also, I think the Optics get “burlier” as they get wider. I think the 96 is slightly less ski than the Optic 104? And then the 104 is less slightly leas burly than the 114.

The magic of the Optic 104 and 114 is that they are somewhat damp/burly yet so darn easy to ski. You get the benefit of both worlds in one ski (ie chargy and easy). Makes you faster overall. I’m not 100% sure if the 96 is like that.

Have you considered getting Deathwish 104s? I suspect they will be more the kind of ski you are looking for than R9s (some takes - including mine - can be found in the Blizzard thread) and should enable pretty damned seamless transitions between your soft snow and hard snow skis.

I am considering it. I just find my regular Deathwish a bit too smeary on the hardpack unless I drive them hard. I don’t know if they are different enough to justify owning them both in a quiver of 3 with the blades.

Adding some data points. Got a pair of 178 BO104s in and they're 2090 and 2070g each

What happens when you drive the Optic 96 or 104? Do they get all turny? Or do they hold up ok? Looking for something to use when skiing with my kids that is easy and fun, but doesn't fold when you use the front of your boot.

I have the BO 96s for this exact use case and I'm super happy with them. I drive them hard on groomers, follow the kids through the trees, park, etc, and generally try to pop off every little bump and feature I see along the way.

more a general question but there's blade optic 96, 184, once drilled pivots 26.5 boot on fb marketplace for $200.

I also ski pivots at 26.5. Can you use same holes?

The build on the BO seems weird to me. I don't geek on weight too much but it's difficult to ignore the figures on website. Line markets as a freeride ski but the 104 weighs 1890g vs the K2 MB108ti at 2265g, which seems more along the lines of what I'd expect from a freeride charger ski. Seriously 1890g is like touring light, WTF.
What’s your bsl? my Andrew’s is ~297 if you want to try out some of his Blade optics.
He has a couple different sizes

    Usually, yes.

Unless the previous owner used epoxy and damaged the thread while unmounting, or already mounted/unmounted the bindings like 5 times, it'll be fine.

Got out on my BO104s the other day on a bit of a sleeper pow day (~8" of light low density pow) and man what a good time they are. Super intuitive, didn't take more than half a run before I was trying to find the limits, jumping off of stuff, and generally hooting and hollering and having a great day.

In a question replace my Prophets. I’ve been riding the 104 in a 185 mounted Tele. Line skis have always made for great Tele skis. Being solid underfoot with a little softer tip and tail. Providing a nice round flex. Fun ski
I got my Vans on but they look like sneakers.....

so i recently broke my old first-version tracer 108 (188 length) and feel like the BO104 could be a decent replacement for a touring- only (running brakeless MTNs) all-year-round daily driver.

I like the shape, I like the mountpoint on paper, only doubt I have is weight. I've checked out specs on various sources/websites. Is the actual weight (per ski, in the 185 length) 2kgs like Line says on the website? 2 kgs would be the sweetspot, 2.3 maybe not that much.

thanks to anyone who might drop a hint, especially people who own 185 BO104.

My 178 BO104s are just over 2kg/ski, so I'd expect that the 185s are a bit heavier. Blister clocks the 185s at 2.2-2.3kg/ski

apparently the new visions have the same shape, ditch the metal and chunky edges to gain weight.

They are heavy. Way more than the listed weight . I have the 185 and think it was 2300g and change when I checked . If you want to laugh I can weigh them now mounted with PT16s.

It was funny bc most reviews loved the extra heft and stability for a moderate flex ski, but the Line marketing clearly targeted them being lighter and more hybrid friendly. I guess that's why the newer version is more in line w targeted weight

    Thanks man, appreciate it.

It's a shame, still seems like a great ski on paper and for inbounds/hybrid use, just too heavy for me and what i'm looking to use it for.

The old Rustler is basically a lighter blade optic

Of my 10-ski quiver, the Optic 104s are probably the skis that are the best one ski quiver inbounds at Whistler when you’re gonna ski everywhere. This used to be the Nordica Enforcer 104 Free for me.

I’ve skied them on sleeper pow days, in slush, ripped ice, fast groomers, on steeps, in sketchy entrances, in bumps and trees…..they make all terrain easy. And cause they’re so easy, you can ski hard terrain better.

They’re not the stiffest, not the dampest or the burliest skis out there but their combo of decent weight + dampness + maneuverability is pretty darn fun.

Stumbled upon this deal and found it too enticing to pass on: https://www.skiessentials.com/produc...-optic114-skis

    Going to give the 192’s a try…
