I would feel really silly if I had paid to get into a shark tank in which I got bit by a shark. Even worse if it's your kid. I noticed the resort didn't seem to know what the hell to say about it either

I like how the end of the article lists another shark attack from a totally different scenario like they are somehow connected

Let the parents wring their hands, that kid is going to playing it for years.

Girl asks about the scars on his legs, he replies "oh, I got those when I was attacked by a SHARK", and he wouldn't even be lying.

Damn, that's crazy. I wonder if any of this pod has any interest in the occupants of these yachts that end up fleeing their ship for their dinghy/liferafts or if they're interested in just the boat itself. Either way, it has to be unnerving as hell to get into the water after these orca have just sunk/disabled your boat.

Annual anecdotal July 4th shark update from the Cape:
    Orca sightings are up
Bitch-ass sharks have been laying low
    Seals looking fat and lazy

A good buddy of mine (Walter Flower) has a project on Shark Week. It is airing on July 10. Normally, Walter is a Captain of a whale watch boat in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia. Both his daughters and brother are also in the show. Here is the trailer. Check it out.

Not sure whether anyone caught the show last night, but Walter's show was excellent. I am very proud of the way that he raised his daughters. If I am living the dream skiing in the Wasatch, he is living the dream in Lunenburg, NS. Lots of big great whites in Canukistan. Not bad for two preppies from Short Thrills

Very cool! I'll have to check it out with my shark-week crazy son.

Not sure if this was mentioned from a few weeks back, but there were a couple shark attacks within 45 minutes of eachother at a popular vacation area for ATL residents, 30a in the Gulf:

One poor highschool girl lost her arm and another woman is still battling critical injuries.

    https://www.11alive.com/article/news...d-3a5376de2ae8

That part of the Gulf has always been sharky close to shore, but I can't ever recall a severe attack, much less multiple so close to eachother.

Watching Shark Week last night and the Bull Shark sighting in the Upstates thread sent me down a rabbit hole of the Lake Nicaragua bull shark population. Wild stuff.

They migrate upstream like a salmon, live in the massive freshwater lake, are still unpredictable dicks...

I'm just glad the Great Lakes whale population has kept the sharks at bay all these years.

Bull sharks are WILD. I was tarpon fishing in the gulf years ago and one of them attacked a tarpon we had just released. Our guide spun the boat around and chased him off. The tarpon had a nice chunk out of it, but otherwise was no worse for wear.

I'm sure if I was a West Coast guy White Shark would enter my mind a lot more, but over here Bull Sharks are my biggest fear when jumping into a tidal creek or the ICW. I tell myself all the dolphin around keep em in line and then forget about it completely a minute later.

Ya, Bull Sharks aren’t really a thing out here. But white sharks love river outlets too and I’d never swim anywhere close to one around here. Almost all the attacks occur near one.

I follow a couple divers that regularly dive with and “redirect” tigers. I cringe every time I watch.

Bites off surfers leg, he catches wave back in. Goes to hospital. They find the leg and are now re attaching! WTF

Standard leg gets bitten off and washed up on beach , found later and re-attached type story.

How do they know it's his leg. It's not like the shark couldn't have bitten off someone else's leg also.

    That's insane!

    Hope the re-attachment is successful.

I suppose we can file insane whale interactions in this thread as well? This had to wake those fishermen up!

NH boat capsized by humpback, caught on camera

Lived in Juneau, AK for six years, and we saw breaching humpbacks quite a bit, as well as bubble feeding and lunge feeding. Sometimes closer than you'd want. Had orcas swim all over, under, and around our boat many times. Almost ran over a humpback while cruising along at 25mph, have seen patients in ER who have hit humpbacks while motoring along and suffered significant trauma (think motor vehicle accident with no seatbelts).

Yup, marine wildlife is BIG, and while it's rare, shit happens. Thankfully the orca in AK haven't yet adopted the behavior of the orcas ramming sailboats. Honestly, in some ways I wish they humpbacks would start ramming the whale watching boats. I think Juneau now has 70+ tourist boats active for whale watching, it's become a shit show. Knock a few over and maybe there'd be less people out there.

That's wild. Isn't it federal law that boats have to maintain 200 yards/meters distance from whales? I guess there might be some "special permits" being issued in exchange for a ton a cash for those whale watching operations.

I think Orca are amazing creatures, and while I believe there's no record of them attacking humans in the wild (boat rudders in the Strait of Magellan notwithstanding, I'd be freaking my shit out if something like this happened to me:

There is some law against approaching within a certain distance of whales and dolphins but there’s nothing stopping them from approaching you

Yeah, I figured that's the case - you can't go driving towards them, but if they breach near you and you're just sitting there then what are ya going to do.
