Gonna mix some Upstate, a ski area, some drinkin', some tunes and a bit of self promotion all into one post so follow along Kidz. Check out the Thirsty Cat festival at Catamount next Saturday. My wife will have a booth in the vendor section, come visit us at the Looming Madness tent. Then go check out The Englishtown Project, my old friend Tommy's band with Mike Falzarano from 5-8pm. Best of all, it's free

Econolodge on 5/20 just east of town? Assuming you're biking to the show and back, that's probably about as far as you want to have to go at 11PM.

Is sleeping in a tent an option? I may know a place.

If it makes sense - we will have our gear, but setting up camp late and night after a show isn't ideal. I'm all ears, though.

Not knowing you or your logistics or what the post concert mayhem is like now, but knowing the area, my 1s thought was that there must be 50 places within 2 miles of the venue where someone could go into a field and out of sight to pitch a tent at midnight. Ive done it but 60 years ago and not there. Look at some sat views. My 2nd thought was that my neph's auto shop is 12 miles away from CMAC. The view from yesterday.

Griffis B 52 bomber base was there. Kept us safe while we ducked and covered.

Plattsburgh AFB over here. Was pretty trippy looking out across the lake at those big birds on approach or taking off.

^ I only remember the FB-111s being based in Plattsburgh but that was from my time in Burlington (78-85). Maybe they had -52s before then?

Maybe you are right. I was a kid, young teen then. There definitely was excitement between them and the VT ANG, that for sure. Maybe I'm conflating it with the times a C5A was doing some kind of touch and go maneuver.

no injuries in Rome, amazingly enough. There was a fatality, however, over in Madison County from falling debris.

they would fly right over our heads on Lake Delta while they were taking off to face the communist threat three times daily. Loaded to the tits with fuel and munitions, struggling to fucking make Altitude. Maybe between 500 and 1000 feet above us… Close enough so we could read the markings on the side of the attached nuclear cruise missiles. It’s pretty bizarre how blasé you get about that kind of shit overtime. People would just talk louder and louder until they couldn’t talk over the sound of the engine anymore and then they Would just wait for the nuclear Equipped bomber to move far enough away so they could start talking again. Nobody ever once mentioning the kilotons of instant death flying so near their heads.

It always freaked me the fuck out. Those boys were heading to war every single fucking day. They flew right up to the edge of the enemy, absolutely prepared to launch those goddamned missiles if they did not receive their recall code in time. Still freaks me the fuck out.

    duck and cover.

    B-52 Stratofortress
To replace the B-47s, the Wing was assigned the B-52G "Stratofortress" bomber and the first B-52G to arrive was christened "Champlain Lady" by Mrs. Wallace Wall Jr., wife of Col. Wall Jr., 380th SAW commander, during dedication ceremonies on June 19, 1966. Transferring here from Loring AFB, Maine, the giant B-52s assigned to the 528th BS took positions on the base flightline next to the KC-135s of the 380th ARS. The crew selected to fly the first B-52G to Plattsburgh was comprised of Maj. Paul W.Maul, aircraft commander; Capt. George W.Bliss, copilot; Maj. Herbert H.Miller, radar navigator; Capt. David L.Scearce, navigator; Maj. John D.DeGraaf, electronics warfare officer; and MSgt. Donald E.Brooks, gunner.

Ya. However, during the period I'm talking about the B-52s were gone and August West was right, they were using FB-111. I had it all mixed up.

I think they may have had some after that for a little while. Griffiss closed before Plattsburgh did. I think for a while some of the planes may have shifted there.

    possible fact.
