Do they really have their IT infrastructure *at* A-Basin?
That would be hilarious.

yeah got one too. I don't even ski on weekends all that much but with the monday holiday and the days between xmas and new years being paid parking days too I am sure I'll hit 8 days
Got mine. Feeling cute. Might rent it out on craigslist.
That power outage hit most or all the county (and more?) and affected the internet. There was a MASSIVE surge associated with it. I heard transformers blew up.
This is what happens when everyone tries to get a parking lot spot at once.
It clogs the damed series of tubes.

Now it has come to this. W.T.Fuck!?!?
I hope Al shat himself when the power went out at least.
I would prefer first come/free/no reservations parking, but they have been trying for years to get more people in the same # of cars. I drive by myself 75% of the time, but I have no problem getting there super early and skinning a lap. I think this is better than building a parking garage.
FWIW Mt Bachelor had a parking reservation system during the pandemic - their idea to manage capacity. No cost, but only a set number of vehicles were allowed on a given day.
You could change license plate on the reservation. So people were trading reservations like crazy. Then they switched to a QR code on phones, but you could email the code to other people.
So I would expect a robust secondary market in parking passes. Just don’t forget to change the tag number back after selling your slot for a day.
Hmmm... this really is making think about how Abasin is a lower priority to me now despite the fact that it is my favorite mountiain.
I am a spontaneous skier. Which means I cannot ski Abasin anymore on weekends.
Oh but it might be open at 2p? Well, that ain't going to get me to buy an Abasin pass. So then it is on to Ikon. Skiing for an hour and a half is not what you do when limited to 7 days.
So, now, I don't really need a full Ikon for an extra 7 days.
So fuck this parking reservation horseshit. Al can shove it right up his ass.
So, Ikon Base? Or a Lovealnd pass instead.

Next will be seeing how getting a reservation goes
FWIW, while I hate the $20 thing, back when Eldora had (free) reservations during covid it was actually better to go there. You didn't have to get there at 8am just to be sure to get a parking spot or do the drive later on the hopes of getting a spot (and sometimes get turned around which really sucked), plus the mountain was less busy. And you could usually find a reservation the day before if you made a last minute decision.
I'm not saying that I am in favor of the choice they made, just saying you might find there are things about it that improve your experience.
I thought it opened up at 1pm?

Most weekend days the lots will not be full. I'd guess if it's before 1pm and you don't have a reservation, you go to kiosk or your phone and pay the $20. If it's after 1, just park. I'm not sure about this, but I doubt they will be turning people away when there are available spots.
1p, 2p, still fucked if you are a spontaneous skier.
1p or 2p is fine for a local on a sunday afternoon if you are fucking around, but not if you want to ski steep gullies, the wall, or if its a pow day.
Being restricted to weakdays doesn't cut me out, but it is very limiting, meaning I have no interest in a basin pass or maybe not even the ikon. I bought Basin season passes for four years starting in 2019, then full Ikon. Up until then I was a Loveland season pass holder and Epic. I stopped buying Loveland. Maybe it is time to go back. I haven't bought passes for next year yet because of the "WTF is happening at the basin" issue.

But looking up at a closed ridge until february would be a gut punch if the luv was the only option.
Yeah, if you're a "spontaneous skier" on weekend powder days wanting to go before 1pm, well, you are precisely who they are trying to make stay at home.

Just make a reservation for every saturday or sunday is my plan. Bought a mtncollective pass too. Looking forward to exploring in the camper and maybe finding a new spot to retire to where the skiing is good and the fuckery is less than Abasin. Kinda depressing.
