Hey Tgapp, I got your PM but can't reply because your inbox is full 🤣. Maybe when we win Mega Millions, we'll buy them a new box fan.

I sent Dan a HD card for $8 to cover my MM tonight and PB tomorrow.
I bought a couple extra to cover whoever may need it, so I got Cat In January covered if he hasn't paid yet or Dan can get on with the cat herding and decide who gets it.
Thanks much Dan for all your efforts!

If you left your laptop on the NYC subway and could find it by randomly dialing phone numbers for the entire population of the USA, and you are hoping to randomly call the right person, would you engage in that behavior?

That's a good proxy for the odds invovled.

What if it was a $400M laptop but each phone call cost $4?

Yeah that’s it right there, you prefer drinking tea with your neighbor. I prefer to get high and ski. See the difference.

I figure I'm paying 4 bucks as insurance not to be totally miserable for the rest of my life if everyone else strikes it rich and I don't!

The way I see it, the 2 bucks are the entry fee for a bunch of freestyling about Audi group buys and buying our own heli op. Having said that, the people behind me in line when I was buying the tickets yesterday definitely seemed like they might be questioning my financial decisions.

Exactly. That's a lifetime of self loathing I can't even begin to fathom, and I can think of far less entertaining ways to waste $4.

    Flawed hypothetical.

After the first $4 call I stopped caring about the laptop and stopped calling. I'll just lose another laptop 2 days later and pay another $2 on a call to find it and if I don't and someone else finds it, then guess what? I go back to not caring about the laptop.

    Also, all of this:

    thanks poindexter.

nobody who is ponying up cares about the odds.

I'm buying the dream. and the right to not be miserable if the group buy hits.

Okay folks, the pool for tonight's Mega Millions drawing is closed. I'll post the final list of members shortly.

And...the pool for tomorrow's Powerball drawing is now open! The cut off will be noon Pacific tomorrow, March 27. Please include your TGR handle and "3/27 Powerball" in the notes, it got a little tricky today since there was some overlap between Powerball and Mega Millions. I feel confident that with our excellent practice selecting the Powerball numbers on Monday, the jackpot is within our grasp.

Cash option is $537.5M, MM ticket costs $2. if I left a $537.5M laptop on the subway and had 1/300M odds of reclaiming it by randomly calling 300M people at $2 per call, there’s decent odds you’d recover your laptop and come close to breaking even, or did I do my math wrong?

Bump the cash option to $600M or greater and worst thing that happens is you break even, assuming your fingers and phone directory are good for 300M entries.

We just need danpdx to front about $600M and buy up all possible combinations.

In Oregon it is $285,454,312 after taxes
